Perhaps you could get a job with the Corps as a civilian employee, but not as enlistee. No recruiter can put you in the Corp of Engineers. You may be able to enlist for an Engineer MOS, but you are going to wind up in the Army as a combat engineer not in Memphis at a enlisted person.

I'd enlist in the navy. I love the water and probably would've joined if I hadn't had a free ride to lsu.
If we seemed so clearly in the wrong then I'd probably consider other options but like others have said war usually isn't that black and white.

I was in my final year of HS when the draft for Viet Nam ended. I told my father, a career Navel officer who served two tours in VN, that I would not go if drafted. Caused a good bit of tension...glad I did not actually have to make the decision.
I think our government should resort to a draft IF our country is really at risk. That was not the case with VN.

Been there, done that! Graduated HS 1969, lotto number 33. Spent one year at LSU with a 2-S deferment (student). Sat out next fall sem,received my "Greetings" letter from Pres Nixon notifying me of my selection to come and serve my country. Personally, I have a very long generational history of military service dating back to our Revolution. Yeah, I knew what was going on, but I felt more honor bound to those who went before me, in whatever conflict they participated in. May sound "corny" but family honor won out for me. Flag? Country? One finds out real quick it is about your buddies, that is what one fights for. All politics aside, I am proud of my service and was the greatest adventure that I have ever experienced. The "not knowing about tomorrow" experience makes one appreciate each and every sunrise he sees.

If the war is to protect our borders then no. If it's some of the wars our politicians have gotten us into or have considered then yes.

So many people on here live under the safety of the sword but do not understand the blade.
Our elected officials and their military advisors determine threats and the military executes the necessary steps to stop those threats. We aren't fighting wars at our borders because those threats get hedged off before they can threaten the homeland. The average US citizen doesn't have the desire to experience inconvenience at the grocery store much less sacrifice their life for their country. I am so thankful that there will not be another draft unless the unthinkable happens. So many of you lack the appropriate will and moral conviction to serve.
But to answer the question, I would go if drafted. I did go voluntarily and I would do it again. Thank god that there are people out there that can see beyond their own petty needs and look to the greater good. It's a shame that those people will get cut down and the cowards and whiners will be left behind to ruin this country.
