Does anybody have any experiences with the travel perks?

AmEx is my primary card for business purchases. I cashed out a bunch of points to pay for my trip to the BCS. Booked a Delta flight and a nice resort with no problem.

The only problem I have ever had with AmEx travel, is that once I booked an Embassy Suites in Lexington, KY and they put me in the handicap equipped room. Otherwise, I have always had good luck.

Also, I lost my wallet several years ago, and AmEx had me a new card delivered to my door within about 18 hours.

I was looking at getting a AMEX Gold Rewards card. Supposed to give you alot of points for travel and I've seen a few posters talk about all the free travel they get of their rewards card.

I've used a gold card for business purchases for years and have traveled quite a bit off of points. I pay it off every month. As far as transaction fees, my understanding is they're much more competitive than they used to be as long as the seller has billing address and 4 digit security code.

Amex is by far the best... Would highly recommend getting an Alternate mastercard as well for the few places that don't take Amex

What benefits are important you?

That's what I do. I've amassed 250,000 Delta Skymiles since 2005. Would be stupid not to get a card with good rewards.

I did the same thing except I didn't join til 2010... Look up delta dining if you havent already done so

I'm not reading through all of this, but I'll lay a little fact in here.

Amex platinum holder since 2002.... Travel and points...... SUCK. Period. There are far superior cards out there for that.

Perks? Unless you live in a big market i.e. DFW, LA, NYC then it's useless.

Why is it worth it? Customer service and fraud protection. I've had countless fraud attempts on my chase cards, but in a decade not one on the Amex. Lose your luggage? Bumped from a flight? Horrible Hotel experience? Need to return that 82'' flat screen to best buy outside the warranty? Amex delivers.

ETA: Platinum card gets me executive club access + upgrades at most hotels. Also, Amex has the best year end statements.

The Fraud protection is pretty much why I want it. I heard the customer service is outstanding. Ideally I'd like to funnel all purchases through the card. There are a ton of perks available through this Gold Premium card that you can earn triple and double points.

I don't travel enough to warrant paying the $450 a year for Platinum. The $175 a year is about the amount of value where I can see some returns. Just glad I was approved.

The platinum used to be awesome... It used to "refund" you any airline "fees" of the airline of your choice that was under $200 bags, drinks, etc....

They quickly took it away due to abuse and now it's just up to $200 per year of the airline of your choice

Maybe I'm using it wrong, but I put quite a bit of money on my cards each year and the thousands of points never really seem to equate to anything worth significant value. At least compared to my Chase card that paid me well over $1500 cash this past year. Buttttttt.... Travel, hotel, big purchase doesn't get better. I'm a whore for cash which keeps my chase card in heavy rotation.

shite, they used to provide a free companion ticket for flights. They watered down that program in less than a year. Also, they got rid of the United Presidents Club Lounge last year... In this area, that's the majority of my flights.

I'm jealous, we don't get a lot of Delta here in LFT. I was just reminiscing the days where the platinum was the a golden ticket.

Don't get me wrong, I completely endorse the Amex. My card reads member since 02' for a reason.

I am young and was late to the game

Only 10 here... But my average line of credit has been open longer than I've been alive due to the parents gas cards

Say what? You drink $500 worth of alcohol in the lounges? How does that work? You get access to lounges and get drinks for free?

Yes. I usually fly through atl or charlotte so being able to go to us airways or delta ones is nice.

I would personally not get an Amex because there's probably not a ton of places you can even use it.

This couldn't be more incorrect. I have been all over the world with my AMEX and I am consistently traveling and I can count on one hand the amount of times I had to pay with another method.

I've been turned down very few times

Growing up, I remember only the rich folks carried American Express back in the middle late 90s. They've done a great job molding that perception. When I got approved yesterday for the Gold Premier, I won't lie, I felt like I achieved some rare financial status I know they probably give them out to every podunk that wants one, still, it seems it still has that feel of exclusivity- whether just perceived.

They're still pretty strict

I still feel a little important when I drop it on ye counter

My first Amex is a zync which is their cheapest charge card but most people haven't seen one so some think its prestigious when I use it

I have an Amex Blue Preferred and I would say about 10 percent of places don't accept Amex. Mostly neighborhood places or local businesses
