We had a regular memory foam room serta that was good, but slept hot. We just got a new one with the new gel top and it is much cooler.

I bought one a year ago. Not sure of the brand or anything else. Got it from overstock. It was one of the highest and most rated mattresses there. Think I paid maybe $600-$700 for it. Not sure exactly how much since I bout it with a bed and other stuff that totally about $2k. Absolutely love it though. Maybe the most comfortable mattress I have had. Next mattress will definitely be memory foam. ETA: Oh yeah, it definitely sleeps hot. Only complaint. Have to keep the air down low at night and only use one sheet. Other thing I would worry about is to use a mattress pad or something similar underneath. After a night out of drinking, I tend to sweat or from bedroom activities sweating and I do not want the foam absorbing the sweat through a single bedsheet.

We bought one from Sam's Club and it cost around $600. It sucks big time. It was supposed to be firm, because my wife and I both have back trouble and need a really supportive mattress. Instead of supporting and cradling you like a Tempurpedic, you sink into your own private hole. It is really horrible. We've had it for over a year now and we want a new mattress, as we are in continuous pain from sleeping on this monstrosity. Not firm at all!

Maybe brand matters. The one I got had 3 levels of firmness. I got the one that was most firm and it is about perfect. And actually more firm than my previous non-memory foam.

I appreciate all the feedback in this. Still weighing the options. So folks with bad experiences - you prefer a standard spring mattress?

I saw a late night informercial for a new kind of foam mattress. Wish I could remember the name, but it looked interesting. Instead of one big block of foam it is several small sponges that form the base of mattress with a foam cover for it. Supposed to give more support in certain parts of the mattress. Supposed to "breathe" better than foam mattresses.

I found the one I was talking about. Octaspring. Looks pricey though. LINK
