I have just been blessed with an awesome gift. I just won a boat. 35hp go devil, 18'x60" boat, trailer, all tricked out.

I just graduated in may, I'm working making a decent amount of money but nothing fancy, getting married in a few months and I have student loans to pay off.

Keep it and run it like a boss or do the economical thing and sell it to help out financially?

Well, here she is. Now THIS is a boat

I would run it like there was no tomorrow . But I'm slightly irresponsible . I guess it depends if you could make your student loans and bills without much trouble

What's the SO's opinion about it? If she's cool with it keep it. It would be miserable listening to her bitch about it every time you take it out though

Depending on your financial situation you have to make the best choice for you.

I personally would consider selling it and getting a cheap go devil. Same functionality, but it'll save you the tax burden and put some cash in your pocket. If u keep the boat you'll have to drop some coin on accessories to rig it up, plus insurance, etc.

I'd sell it and use the money on a boat I'd use more, being hat I don't have a need for a go-devil. I damn sure wouldn't sell it and end up with no boat however. No matter what the uncle tells you, a boat is not something to borrow from someone on the reg. You can borrow guns, tools, sometimes money, clothes, etc, but you can't borrow a man's boat or piece of pussy.

If you are getting married soon, this is a golden opportunity to establish ground rules that you entered marriage with a boat (regardles if its this one or another one) and are going to use it every chance you get.

Look at it like this: If you wouldn't have won the boat you would still be going to pay for your loans etc. out of pocket anyway.

So by winning the boat you added to your assets, there's no way I would sale it. That's my dream boat though, so I may be a little biased.

If its a boat you want and would use, keep it. If you could sell it and get a rig more suited to your pusuits, do that. Do not, under any circumstance, sell it and not get another boat.

ETA: Im married and the wife is in med school. We have lots of school loans, but I still bought a small boat this past year because my sanity and her getting used to me having a boat were more important than an extra loan payment in the future.

No matter what you do with it, you're gonna hafta pay income taxes on the FMV of the whole rig. Just keep that in mind. Congratulations, though! Wish I had your problem!
