It has been manipulated, if the real numbers were published Odummy would have had an even harder time getting his second term. They already set the stage for this report,....it's all Sandy's fault.

NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND!

540,000 removed from the employment books.

Which quite possibly is an even greater example of manipulation than the original theory (oh, and remember I said "if", Mr. Comprehension).

yeah, they manipulate the number but they use much bigger hijinks than assumptions. they create categories like u6 so they can lower unemployment. Much more effective than a pt or two swing.

60 days?

Nothing will come of it, but i find it a fascinating experience.

Rather silly thread in retrospect

The number of people who think these statistics are manipulated by the Obama administration (or other pro-Obama group) is mind boggling.

This is what happens when you're not only entitled to your opinion, but also your own facts.

Right...and it seems rather silly to suggest that he is just now doing it

As if it wouldn't have made more sense to do it all along

Well, with the way unemployment is measured, they kind of are.

You do realize that the Obama administration did not create the method of calculating UE.

The reality is that they do manipulate it, but they don't do it on a month to month basis. They change structures on things, like reclassifying of people to U6 so they don't count in top line number.

Tweaking it on a monthly basis would be way too hard and way too many people involved to make it practical. People talk, and it would have come out long before this. But structural changes are easy to implement and do the job much more effectively.

reality is we have had 10%+ unemployment since 2001.

What facts point to the % of people not working vs those that are able to work being 7.7% today?

Really, I think the only people who should be upset about taxes are people like me. Upper middle class income and nothing meaningful in the way of deductions. But I'm not even really that upset about it. Someone has to fund all this shite and I'm just pitching in my small part.

How is it that you haven't realized that the increasing of your taxes isn't going to do anything to "fund all this shit".

You are going to be paying more taxes...and we will still be facing 90% of the current DEFICIT.

Yes, but they are in charge of the assumptions driving the calculations. It's not a straight up calculation on known actual #'s, it's using some very questionable assumptions to determine who is dropping out of the job market. Any way you slice it, the #'s are shitty. If you calculated it using the workforce population when bush was in office we'd be over 11%
