I think you mean ideas instead of criticism.. not everyone claims to have the answers. Sometimes we just need to be made aware of things in a different perspective, I don't think Chomsky has ever set out to provide the answers.

You can criticize ideas and perspectives but you can't call an idea or perspective a criticism. He said Chomsky is too full of criticism and not enough solution, when in reality he's not really trying to give solutions, he's giving ideas and perspectives.

Funny, I think it is one of the meaningful sentiments we can make although it is now somewhat watered down. Possibly a backlash against the "divide and conquer" scheme our govt uses to keep us distracted. Supporting the troops is one of the few things we can all agree on and a reminder they are not the ones responsible for our policy. Chomsky has it completely backward.

as it happens i ran across another example for you - mountain climbing accident on K2 in 1953 - guy had pulmonary edema and they were trying to get him off the montain, one guy slipped pulling 4 others over the edge with him, all being held by the last guy. sick guy was at the bottom with them all hanging, cut the rope to help their chances. as far as i'm aware there was no mountain climbing self sacrifice propaganda in 1953.
