So he got a raise FIVE freaking years out for abiding by his current contract. Let me catch my breath...

Sooo that eliminates the possiblity that they gave him a raise so quickly to keep around him at LSU, when there was the possibility of him leaving, to reward him for his consistency and success?

Ah ok I think I got it now.

You must have some keen insight just like TXTiger. I was unaware that it was written in Miles' contract that he go 13-0 and play in the National Championship game.

Backtracking. You have moved from

"We were trying to reward him"

to

"We were trying to reward him because there was a threat of him leaving"

Which is logically inconsistent.

Les guides a team to a national championship last year with the two worst QB's in college football history. But nobody talks how that was a ridiculously good accomplishment because we lost in the NCG. Added that it was Saban.

We "lost"? We got beat the frick down 21-0 on National Television against a team that should not have been there, that we should have put away 2 months before, against a coach that we all hate. You really just call that a "loss" .. ? I don't.

13-0 doesn't mean shite when you get spanked in the NC like we did. We had a very talented team and it's glaringly obvious that we lost because of bad preparation.

I'm really tired of this sunshine pumper nonsense. I've said this so many times that I'm definitely :beatdeadhorse: but I'll say it again just for the benefit of these morons..

10-2, standalone, is a good season. If you don't factor in anything else but the raw record, sure, that's good. But that's not the case.

WE HAVE THE TALENT to be in Miami on January 7th. IT'S THERE. We PROVED THAT when we outplayed a Gump team that is GOING TO BE THERE. The fact that we aren't can only be attributed to coaching. Seriously, tell me why we lost to Bama? Give me a reason that isn't the coaches fault. You can't. Tell me why we lost to UF.

I am frustrated as a fan NOT because I expect to go to the NCG every year and we didn't, but because WE HAVE a NC-caliber team and we didn't make it BECAUSE of coaching. Our team right now is NOT a 10-2 team! We are a 14-0, NC team. We just aren't executing.

You only get dealt a good hand so often (see: LSU football's entire history prior to 2000 other than a few good years), so you HAVE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE of those hands when you have them. We have some good cards now, we need to get what we can while we still have the opportunity.

/rant

ETA: tl;dr we are underachieving under CLM

& sorry about the caps, frustrated

No it isn't.

LSU knew that he had the potential to leave and there could be other demand around the league for Miles, so LSU thought they would give him a raise, which was deserved because of his success. A raise can be given to keep someone around and at the same time be a reward for consistency and success no?

Didn't mean to make that so difficult for you to grasp.

Yes, it is.

There was a specific threat. That is what you keep overlooking, conveniently for your case. You act like there was no catalyst for this entire raise situation, when there was.

which was deserved because of his success.

Nobody is saying he didn't deserve it. We are saying he didn't get one out of the blue for "success".

According to some in this thread, the only way that any person in the history of the earth has ever gotten a raise is by a) threatening to leave their current position, or b) being the #1 person in their profession.

In no other circumstance is a raise allowed.

Sorry folks, but we aren't talented like some you say we are. Les did as much as he could probably do with this team. I don't expect much out of Les unless its recruiting. I expect greatness from Chavis. He is the strength of this team, and will continue to impress every year. As for Miles and co. concerning offense, will always be a weakness and lose games for us, unless superior defense from Chavis.

This is how I know you didn't watch the last three games of the season. The offense bailed out the defense in each one.
