bro in law is a big wig for Gallo Wines in Napa

told me that 95% of people cant tell the difference between a $10 bottle and a $100 bottle.
I'm curious, what does your brother in law do for Gallo? Is he in sales? I ask because the statement reflects a lack of understanding of what the price of a bottle of wine means.

The price of a wine is a reflection of two things: 1. How much it cost the winery to produce the wine. 2. How much the winery thinks it can charge for the wine and still have people buy it. It's not a declaraton of how good the wine is. There is no simple calculus of, "If the wine costs this much it's good and if it costs that much it's bad."

quote:

The big time oak aged wines that run in the 100s are different and so are the cheap $3-5 wal mart wines that use the leftover juices.

other than that he said go ahead and drink up on the $8/10/20 bottles. ive always read tons of experts say the same thing so we just buy shite under $15 and people tell us how good our wine is
I've had very expensive wines that weren't very good and inexpensive wines that were very good. The trick is in knowing which is which. Again, the price has nothing to do with how good the wine is.

I probably taste over 500 wines each year. When I publish my two lists I'm telling you which wines I liked the best from the wines I tasted in the past year. Hopefully I save people some money. Hopefully I steer them toward some wines they may not have tried, but may enjoy.

I dont know about the rest of you, but why would anyone doubt what someone who works for a company that makes millions of dollars peddling plonk says about wine, preferences, and taste?

If you'll excuse me, I need to go re-read Roger Goodell's indictments against the evil Saints.

I need to give some very good reds to someone who did a huge favor for me this year. I don't know much about wines and I don't drink reds.

Any suggestions and also where might I order to have them sent to him?

I'm looking for 50-75 buck range and I'll probably send 2 or 3.
