There was a pretty interesting sci fi novel written a few years ago where the CIA has developed time travel. They send an agent back in time to prevent the Titanic sinking: A diplomat on the ship would have been able to prevent WWI if he survived. No WWI>>no Hitler>>no WWII, etc. Of course the plan doesn't work.
