Yes, that includes defending yourself. A person can defend themselves without hitting back.
Explain how one can defend themselves while being battered by not fighting back? Just take the hits until he is knocked unconscious?

Not really. You see it all the time in movies. Some dude tries to hit Bruce Lee, Bruce dodges left, ducks, whatever. You can defend yourself without hitting back, but it's typically a poor way to go about it. Obviously, a guy has you pinned to the ground, not hitting back is pretty much out of the realm of "defending yourself" unless you're defending yourself with your steel chin.

You watch too many movies, and have never actually encountered a fist fight.

I'll grant you the first part. I do watch too many movies. But I have been in far too many fist fights over the course of my life. If you actually read the post for what it is, it's pretty clear that not hitting back is a bad way to go about "defending yourself." It is possible to defend without attacking, though. In fact, they are opposing actions, so one might say it is impossible to defend while attacking. There are obviously instances in which an attack may be used as a defense, but the basics remain. Do I really need to go over this?

Show up to school with my kid the next day. Ask him to point out said bully and have a little conversation. When the school wants to start shite tell them if they took care of things in the first place it wouldn't have been necessary. I'd also tell my kid to fight back and dare the school or the little bastard's parents to frick with me.

If its recurring instances then I'd bring the rain upon the school. It is their Job to provide a safe learning environment for the kids.

frick no. Especially with schools with the zero tolerance rule. I've seen first hand a kid get punched, do nothing back and both got suspended. So while trying to do the right thing, the kid looks like a bitch and STILL gets the same punishment as the bully. If they put that rule into place, better believe my son will have my permission to jaw jack that dude. Luckily, my son's private school all the way. At my private school we never fought one another at school. It was either kids from a different school or harmless backyard tussles that we were over after a few minutes. When I went to public schools I would get into fights for simple things like being the new guy, a girl thinking you're hot (even if you never spoke to her), bumping to someone in the hall or hell, looking at someone the wrong way. Trash gonna trash.
