I shoot 3 1/2s so I can take further shots (not skyblasting, just more range). And basically for all the reasons TulaneUVA listed. I don't mind paying extra, if I'm going to invest my time and gas money I might as well be confident in what I'm shooting. Oh and like I said, the Maxus doesn't kick bad at all so shoulder fatigue or whatever you want to call it is not an issue. May cost a little more, but I have a whole lot less cripples than my buddies that shoot 3in.

I've started loading 3in as my first two shells and a 3.5in as my third shot, I like busting that last duck that thinks he got lucky
eta: I shoot a Beretta, but I like the Silver a lot

I hunt the maxus. The combination of a ridiculously balanced gun, no weight, no recoil, and virtually no muzzle flip regardless of load makes for extremely fast follow up shots. Mine has never jammed or malfunctioned in any way and I use my shite out of all my gear. A shot of oil will get you through the hunt no matter how dirty.

I used my son's Maxus for one duck hunt this year. Though it was a POS! Just didn't fit/feel good to me. I will stick with my A5 or 870 Rem.  I'm 54 years old and been shooting a lot of guns over the years, but yet some will give me a hard time calling that gun a POS!

A5 is a great gun but if you are going to spend that kind of money I want to be able to shoot 3.5'' for turkey and geese.

Hmm, gun I borrowed doesn't fit me, clearly its a piece of shite...
I'm trying to make the decision between the SBEII, Xtrema2 or the Maxus. I shoot a Browning Gold now, but really want to be able to throw in a 3.5" when I'm feeling froggy.

I've said it before but I bought a browning gold and maxus off gunbroker, both NIB, for $650 and less than $1,100 respectively.
One broker, Northern firearms always has Maxus' listed on there for well below MSRP, with free shipping and no tax! I got my MODB 3" Maxus w/ 28" barrel for $1,050 and had to pay $40 for FFL.
Used to be a Beretta boy, now I'm a Browning man.

why can't you shoot 3.5" out of a browning gold? is it an older model? mine shoots them. i think it's one of the last ones they made being that i bought it about 5 years ago.

All three are great guns, I was trying to decide between these three guns a couple years ago. I shouldered all three and the Maxus was more comfortable and super light so I chose the Maxus. My best advice is to try each one out and choose the one that is more comfortable for you and you will not be disappointed.

Correct Nhassl, my Gold is 3".
For those wanting to know the differences between Maxus/ Browning Gold(Silver):
Easier disassembly of maxus- push button forearm release, piston and sleeve are one component that slides over magazine tube with separate spring, whereas on gold(silver) there is separate spring/sleeve/piston.
Maxus composite/camo models are sling ready guns, no extra magazine caps or anything to buy, simply install standard sling. I can't comment on newer Silvers, but my Gold does not have this.
Bolt assembly on the Maxus slams forward with SERIOUS authority when you push release button. I can't comment on technically what changed, but you can hear/feel the difference.
You won't go wrong with either. If I had a video camera and YouTube account I would make a serious Maxus disassembly for you to show how fast I can break the thing down (including punching the trigger out) for a full cleaning. I can strip and punch trigger out in probably 3 minutes tops, then clean and reassemble for a total of 10 minutes. So easy there's no reason not to do a full strip like that after a weekend.

Very true.
The SBE2 is now old technology. The way the new Vincis are operated will probably be the standard before all that long.
The spring is directly behind the bolt and not in the stock which reduces muzzle flip. It's a great design.
As to why people shoot 3.5s, it's all I shoot. I shoot them because I can and because I sometimes hunt in fields where I may have a longer shot and I want the heavier payload and more powder to be able to knock down and not cripple a bird.
Besides, I'm already spending a fortune to be able to hunt why would I worry about another $40 or so on a case of shells?
