Just stab yourself before you arrive to save the locals the trouble.

You looking at Thomas Goode Jones?
At one time, Jones Law grads could only sit for the Alabama Bar because the school wasn't regionally accredited and the Alabama's was the only Bar that recognized it. Might want to check that out first and make sure things have changed. It's ironic, though, because Thomas Goode Jones was one of the founders of the ABA and wrote the ABA's original Code of Ethics. Of course, that was after he stole an Alabama governor's election.

What the h is this? Cloverdale is the old money affluent w/in Montgomery. Much of the east side of Montgomery is good. Prattville is by far the best suburban town around Montgomery. Some M. thugs are migrating to Prattville, but it is still pretty good.

Read the post again. The question was "Anyone familiar with Montgomery, AL?? (living recs?)." My response was, "Prattville to the North. Out 85 to the East. Everywhere else," you gonna get raped. How do you get "stay away from Prattville" out of that?

He was responding to CaptainPanic, not you Harry. It all depends on what you want. If you are looking for a house, you can get some deals in Cloverdale, but you must check them out one-by-one. They are around 80 years old, and are therefore hit-and-miss. It is also quite close to Alabama State, so you do have some ghetto chic to it, kind of like North of LSU. However, the little set of shops West of Huntingdon does have quite a bit of charm. There are some more stable neighborhoods, like Vaughn Meadows or Dalraida that have some pretty good deals. Those houses were built in the 70s, so some updating may be in order. Young Farm is a newer development of smaller houses (w/garages, which can be rare "inside the Bypass"). Further East, you have McMansionland of Halcyon, Deer Creek and Pike Road. Big houses; even bigger money. One bargain out East is Arrowhead. Those houses are older and quite large, but they are still reasonable in price for what you are getting. Prattville is superior for schools, unless you are prepared to send kids to private schools in the city. Seeing as you don't list a family, that may not be a consideration. If you are looking for an apartment, there are some nice newer developments along the East Boulevard South of I85. The one name I can think of right now is Central Park, but there are others. I like Montgomery. I just don't like all the Gumps I have to deal with. GEAUX TIGERS

I live in Cloverdale behind Huntingdon College and wouldn't consider living anywhere else in the city. Thorny is pretty spot on above.

Another place to look is Woodmere, especially if you like being next to a larg park. The Blount Cultural Park is really big and home to the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. The neighborhoods around it can be quite nice. Vaughn Lakes appartments are nice, but can be a little pricy. Again, it all depends on what you want. Montgomery is a small town that has pretty much everything you want (as opposed to Baton Rouge, which has turned into a big city.)

Good deal. Sorry 'bout dat. Good luck with your admissions process. Not that you asked for this advice, but from the faculty side of the house I can tell you that all other things being equal - reasonably high test scores, GPA, campus involvement, etc. - the essay portion of the application may be the most important part. Grammar mistake, excessive passive voice, misplaced modifiers, and the like are quick ways to get your app tossed into the round file. Cluttered, confused, undisciplined writing usually comes from cluttered, confused, undisciplined minds. Best of luck.

The crime really is not that bad either. Its one of those deals where a majority of it is in areas you will not frequent. Montgomery has come along way in the last ten years. I couldn't believe I was moving here either but I enjoy it now.

I graduated from Jones in 2008. The tuition has went up significantly since I graduated. The school has made a lot of upgrades in facilities and especially faculty. The bar passage rates have been higher than Cumberland and Bama over the past few years. It is smaller than most state law schools. I found this to be a positive. Cloverdale is your best option for a 20 something. It has the best access to bars and restuarants. Don't move to the suburbs. They are nice for families, but not what you want. I was married when I moved to Montgomery. We lived on the east side, which is really your only option outside of Cloverdale. It is the nicest section of the city. There are a lot of apartments in that area and it is very convenient to the school. Montgomery isn't that great, but you can have a good time there while you are in school. I would advise looking for a job elsewhere after you graduate. The attorney job market there is pretty satuarated.

Thanks for the input. I have family ties in Mobile and Baldwin County. Watching to see how this new public defender system plays out state wide. (Interested in Crim Defense). I talked to a guy today, he has the Cloverdale Castle as well as some lofts closer to downtown. Both are cheap.

For some reason the sniper towers at each end of the town's high school football stadium didn't give me a reason to want to go back

Lived in Montgomery for 3 years, just moved in May 2012 to Knoxville ----> Id check out the area around Taylor Road & Vaughn Road - thats a really nice part of Montgomery. Bell Road is nice too - but $$$$$$ another-words: East Montgomery is the place to be now, fast growing with lots of new shops
