This really is the best part. If there had been no constant, it would be harder to see.

Do we have numbers on the SEC as a whole? I think we should only look at SEC games as, for example, games vs. Clemson officiated by Big East officials don't support the hypothesis.

Comparing just Bama to LSU only proves Bama has more than LSU, not that it's an annomoly in itself.

If we look at the baseline for all SEC games and then compare LSU and Bama, we may have something.

Even, so it only proves they have less penalties, but from there, you can look at individual incidents.

My favorite part of that gif is him turning to look over his left shoulder, not seeing the down marker, than looking back to his right and finding the marker so that he could nudge it to the stick.

It's so ridiculous you'd assume someone Photoshopped the yard marker back there.

Absolutely.

One other thing to notice. I will SWEAR that the Bama coach that ends up in fron of the down marker does it on purpose.

Follow his path through the other coaches... you can see he has no purpose other than to find the official and then attempt to obscure a camera from picking up the down marker on the field.

And I would also swear that the first look to the refs left is to make sure that coach is coming.

Unbelievable.

You can be an average football player and a disciplined football player at the same time. This is getting a little ridiculous, as many have already pointed out.

It's just black and white Rise......plain and simple.

What does this have to do with the thread.....the VAST majority of LSU fans enjoy winning and it's been a great ride that will continue.

But

It's fishy and just calling LSU fans and insecure still doesn't explain why Bama seems to get preferential treatment. Honestly, I don't think they need it.

So what exactly makes a conspiacy more likely than a trend of discipline?

A large amount of data. You need to span multiple coaching regimes (I would say at least 3). And even then it would likely be difficult to distinguish between discipline and bias.

FWIW here are each teams rank in Penalties per SEC game over the past 6 years:

its absurd that a team that plays as aggressive as saban's to have so few penalties. It wasn't that way at LSU.

I care more about the scheduling BS

I couldn't find the data complied for each season for only SEC games before 2007 and I don't feel like compiling it myself. But if you did that for more seasons, you could probably get some "proof" of bias.

I'm going off memory which is far from perfect. I remember reading an article about it in 2009 after PP7's screwjob

I'll see if I can find some data when finals are over

There's no denying that in an infinite universe other life exists, but that's a topic for the OT.

As for this topic, the first flaw is that you're comparing 2 teams. If there was an obvious bias for alabama then it would seem they'd be ranked in the top 3 in fewest penalties every year, the list posted earlier shows that they aren't, that seems like a trend of disciplined football.

If I wanted to put in the time I could find other schools around the country that are consistently ranked toward the top or bottom in their conference over a decade span, there is no doubt in my mind.

The "blatant bias" theory stems from 2 things that make it convenient to claim. The missed call on the PP7 interception (I remember corey webster shoving down a bama receiver in the end xone like it was yesterday) and the location of the league offices. Alabama was called for more penalties than A&M in the meeting in tuscaloosa this year. The possession after Clinton-Dix was called for a helmet to helmet on a crucial play, a defenseless Eddie Lacy was hit on a blatant helmet to helmet that wasn't called. Dee Milliner had a guy stick his fingers through his facemask and eye gouge him against georgia, he sawtted the guys arm and got a 15 yard personal foul penalty. Officials miss calls every game, it's just tin foil hat to suggest there is a blatant bias towards alabama because they are flagged less over a time frame and point to that as a be all end all suggesting bias rather than disciplined play

The offices have to be located somewhere, and it makes sense for them to be located in the central most state in the conference, does it not? The average distance from birmingham to the leagues universities is as close as it gets.

Do most of you feel like the last 3 games against alabama were officiated unfairly? They were not.

Over the past decade, Alabama's average conferenc rank in fewwest penalties per game is 3rd. Wouldn't blatant bias have them sitting at 1st? Someone is always going to be ranked at the top, the bias theory stems from the missed interception and location of the offices

This may be as good a place as any to drop this. This mindset may just very well be cultural, or even just personal.

I happen to abhor cheating. As a former athlete, the idea of cheating always pissed me off. After all, the goal of the contest to is to prove that you can win a straight up contest. If you win, but did so by cheating, then you know inside you didn't actually win. It's hollow.

It's why I hate the thought of recruiting scandals, or boosters doing things to circumvent the rules in order to cheat. This is not a defense of the rules...just an acknowledgment that breaking them to gain an advantage when others may not be makes you a cheater, and your wins hollow. Same would go for being aided either by outright fraud or by simple bias. If I knew my team was being aided, I'd want it to stop. I'd want the wins to mean something and if I thought we weren't winning them honestly they wouldn't be as sweet.

BAMA doesn't need help. They are historically the most dominant program in our league and one of the top in the nation. And yet, this is the same fan base that will look you right in the eyes and claim national titles they know didn't happen...for what? Claiming the acknowledged ones STILL gives you more, but that's not enough.

So it's not surprising to see a BAMA fan feign disbelief that others would point and ask if BAMA's huge (and well documented) influence within the SEC offices has anything to do with the disparity seen in tens years worth of penalty stats. How crass to even ask such a question, right?

In the mean time, I'm assuming you wouldn't have any objections to firing everyone in the SEC offices and moving the entire operation to say...New Orleans? I'm sure there are imminently qualified people residing there, and I promise not biased in the least.

Your chart indicates that the SEC favors MissState just as much as Bama. We gonna cry over that too?

I want to point out that ARMY, NAVY, and AIR FORCE are also in the top 10 in least penalized teams every year! fricking Obama!

How in the world can a team that runs the ball 90% of the time like NAVY only be called for 28 penalties in 2011? They lead the nation just about every year in least penalized team. OHHH the HUMANITY of these CHEATERS!

His right foot (forward foot) is the foot he and most refs use to mark the placement of the ball.

He moves his foot 4 times to his right toward the marker, the 4th being after he looked back at the marker.

you dont do that by accident.

interesting stuff.
