We didn't play many mid-level teams. They either sucked or were Top 25.

So 9 shitty teams and 3 top 25 teams that you lost to and Tech thinks they are a Tier 1 program?

Well, we know we are not shitty and we know we can play Top 25 teams very close. I guess that puts us at Tier 2 somewhere.

How many Tiers are there?

I'm giving him a pass. I think NIU getting the Orange Bowl at 3:00 on the day of selections screwed everything up. If he would have had the information yesterday that he has today, we would be in the Independence Bowl.

Not according to the CBS article:

"In hindsight, would the AD have told the Independence Bowl to wait had he known this might happen and his team could miss out on a bowl opportunity, he says he still would've done the same thing again. Van De Velde says because the program had played in the Independence Bowl in 2008 and then the Poinsettia Bowl last year, one of those bigger bowls seemed like the progression. "I think we still would've waited because we felt like that's what was best for our university."

Honest answer...I can appreciate that. Now I want another one...

Do you believe that ULM playing the Indy Bowl had no effect on Tech's decision to seek out another bowl?

Yes. The impact of his decision is soooo overblown.

Hell! I'm not a Tech Fan, but, if my program was joining CUSA next year, I need to develop a new recruiting base along the Eastern side of this country. If the Liberty Bowl is considering me, and I can establish some foundation in the Memphis recruiting community, I'm holding tight like they did.

TV exposure in the Memphis area is far more beenfical to my future than anything the Indy Bowl can provide.

Bingo we have a winner. They wanted to be visble in other areas not North La where they are already visible..

re: LA Tech AD Speaks

quote:

No. It's accurate. Advocare(sponsor) wanted Ohio there.

They wanted an 8-4 Ohio over a 6-6 Central Michigan. They knew if they waited for Tech that the Pizza Bowl would take Ohio. They didn't want to take the risk La Tech got the Liberty leaving them with a 6-6 MAC team.

So no, its not accurate to say Ohio would have still been available for the Indy had they waited on La Tech.

Two things wrong with this:

1) Did they not consider the possibility this could happen with the Kent State/NIU winner having the possibility of finishing top 16?

You gotta have a contingency plan, at least.

2) New Year's Day? Really? For La Tech?

That's a tough one. I know they didn't want to play in Shreveport even before ULM accepted. But ULM accepting was a double whammy.

But if they knew that was their only choice, they would have accepted in a heart beat. No brainer.

Well now their season is over and they can't practice until Spring semester starts.

Why would a company based in Plano Texas want Ohio in the bowl more than Tech? Are they lacking distributors in the MAC area or are they rewarding the MAC for having so many distributors?

Ummm, no.

He pissed away $300k, additional practice time for his team, and national TV exposure.

LOL WUT?

Being in ANY bowl is positive for recruiting. Not sure why they should be aiming for recruits on the Eastern Seaboard more than any other region, and I certainly don't see how playing in Memphis vs. Shreveport has any impact on that.

They were hoping NIU would beat Kent St so 2 Big XII teams would go the BCS games. They got excited when that happened. I do not think they anticipated NIU going to a BCS game.

Heart of Dallas was the primary target for Tech. It's played on New Year's Day and they were excited about the prospects of that.

On top of that, the CEO of Advocare WENT TO LA TECH.

LINK

Sorry, but saying the sponsor wanted Ohio of La Tech doesnt hold water.

which makes BVDV a moron b/c all week ESPN was talking about how either the winner of Kent/NIU or Boise was extremely likely to crash the BCS.

He can say he was shocked all he wants but to anyone who pays attention to CFB it wasn't all that surprising with the way the season had played out.

UCLA losing to Stanford on Firday kicked the door wide open for it to happen. Texas would have had to upset KState in Manhattan, where they never win BTW, to keep NIU out.

Ask Advocare. They have made public statements to Shreveport media supporting my statement.

I appreciate the straight answers. Rare around here.

One final one...

What is so damn awful about playing ULM from a Tech perspective? Is it simply because Tech feels they are better than ULM?
