How much does it normally cost to spay a dog? My vet just quoted me $336.50. My dog is a 28lb Boykin Spaniel.

This includes two nights stay with the vet (stay Monday night, surgery Tuesday, stay Tuesday night, pick up Wednesday) and the follow up to remove the stiches.

I know some clinics will do it for cheap, but would rather use my vet. This is my first dog, so I have no clue on this. I just want to make sure I'm not getting taken to the cleaners.

A guy here in Shreveport will do it for $120 bucks for a large breed dog like mine. No over night stay. I remember having my dachsund neutered and it was around your quoted price with 1 over night stay.

Sounds about right (i am married to a DVM). dont be afraid to shop it though. You might find a better price with a reputable vet

I've used this guy several times. Each time turned out well.

This is probably the most varying cost in veterinary medicine. At my clinic 300-400 for spay depending on size. Prices at vets vary depending on urban or rural, how may doctors, how modern the place is. Some low cost places will do it for 50 bucks. Ask about how they do anesthesia, do they have electronic monitoring machines, do they put pet on IV fluids. I just recommend a place that is clean and uses proper sterilization techniques. Now with that being said I could probably do a spay with an tranquilizer on the back of a truck with some monofilament if I had too. It all depends on the care you want for your dog.

Oh, why the frick do they want to keep them overnight? Done first thing in morning and sent home that evening with a cone around the neck.

I have no idea why. I should call and ask. It's my normal vet and he isnt crazy expensive on other visits.

I paid $75 for my pup at the Baton Rouge Spay and Neuter Clinic at the Associated Vets, they did a great job.
