well, i am going to guess that he doesn't kill himself in that parking lot without a gun.
He may have killed himself at a future point, but a gun is very simple and effective. Pills/inhalation of co2 are harder, and someone might have gotten to him before he died. Hanging is unrealistic in a parking lot.

Maybe, maybe not. The ease and convenience of a firearm makes it a lot easier. Murder-suicide is usually a "heat of the moment" event. And having to use hands, knife, etc, makes it a less likely.
Costas (quoting Whitlock) overstates the case, but his statement doesn't call for the stereotypical knee jerk response we're seeing on the board.
And, as I said in the other thread, I own guns. Nobody's going to come knocking on my door to take them away because of Bob Costas.

Ease and access does not correlate to murder or suicide
The U.S. has the 38th highest suicide rate, behind no less than 30 countries where handguns are banned and illegal...
Hence, VOR, your beliefs are merely a figment

Costas should be fired. A sportscaster shouldnt be airing his personal political opinion on TV. Talk about sports, dont take advantage of a tragedy to advance your political ideology.

This is a good point.
So, let's say he had no gun, and killed his girlfriend with a gun/knife,tire tool. But, he has no convenient way to off himself.
Now we have to pay for a trial and his jail time.
With a gun, the murderer can easily kill himself. Saving the taxpayers a wad of cash.

Think about all the 2nd degree murders that wouldn't happen. Robberies or drug deals gone bad. Acts of passion. Accidents/innocent victims in the commission of a crime.

Think about the POS that would use a gun to rob/murder. That's the problem. Not the guns.

In America's murder stats, if you actually take out suicide (the largest chunk) and illegal murders (not lawful self defense), the rate is actually quite low.
Get the correlation? Good people have A LOT to lose and some POS on the streets has NOTHING to lose because that's all he's ever known.
This is something I can never get people to understand. I have a CC permit and can't just walk around threatening people. I have a lot to lose and won't just "snap" one day and break the law. I'm law-abiding and responsible.
