Poor people shouldn't pay taxes The whole concept of the poor paying taxes is absurd The fact that these folks can get back 500% more than they put in is absurd.

Why the hell not? That whole mindset is absurd. The poor use the vast majority of government services (aside from things like roads, law enforcement, etc). Not having to pay anything for it just gives them more of an entitlement mentality.

Not sure if serious. The "poor" use the law enforcement services more than anyone.

As a law enforcement officer I can tell that your quote is accurate. I go into many homes where the residents are considered "poor". Most of them have big screen televisions, smart phones, designer clothing, $100.00 shoes, and to top it all off....they don't work. So what really pisses me off is that me, and many other people, work our asses off for our families, and their's obviously. So they can sit at home, not work, and have things just as nice as my family if not nicer

Everyone should pay the same rate. Tax EVERYONE 50%. Even the poor. This will hurt the poor more, but.... The proceeds from the raises will be used to pay for the poor's food, shelter, schooling, healthcare, phones, etc. There really is no reason that everyone shouldn't pay the same rate.

So poor people's money is more important to them that those that are better off? Really?

NOPE...If poor people valued money, they would have more of it. Why do they rent an apartment and have $3,000 invested, and I use that term loosely, on rims? Why do they struggle to pay their utility bill, but spend $300 on a dumb tattoo on their neck? Why do they make $10 per hour and smoke cigarettes? Literally working 1 hour each day to smoke? Can a person get much dumber? Unfortunately...yes they can. Poor people in general make poor choices. The top 5% of wage earners in this country made different choices in their life and Deserve the rewards of those choices.

Is taking 10% any less of an act of theft than 25%?

Proportionally? 10% = 10%. Relatively speaking? Not a chance. Which is why most support regressive taxes and their ilk.

Yeah but the point you're missing is that a 10% hit on a poor family might force them to skip a meal. Whereas a 10% hit on the rich might force them to down size from a 36' fishing boat to a 32'.
No it wouldn't. We will downsize somewhere else.

No. Not even close. At lower income levels, the marginal benefit of each additional dollar in income is extremely high. As you move up in income, the marginal benefit declines. There's really no point to taxing poor people. We'll just have to give it back in some form of aid, which will waste even more money. Right or wrong, we decided a while back not to let people starve. Might as well let them keep the money they earn.

Right now, OBESITY rates are highest among low-income households. We have fat, poor people.

Starving isn't much of an issue. We decided to provide food via food stamps so they could use their money for other things.

Here is some food equity... Earlier this month, I stopped by the Super 1 Foods in New Iberia on my way home from work. I stood in line behind a woman who was purchasing two containers of crabmeat (the real stuff), three pounds of peeled crawfish tails and six nice ribeyes with her Louisiana Purchase card.

This is hilarioulsy funny, assuming you live in a red state other than Texas or Georgia. If you live in any other red states then your tax dollars are being spent on the local level because your state is a net recipient of tax dollars instead of a net payee of the same. Wages are so low in all but two red states that they are all welfare recipients (if you consider anyone who takes a handout from the federal govt a welfare recipient) and leaching off their betters in places like New York and California and Maschussets. Those of us in the south are going to keep bitching and moaning about taxes and how the poora are not doing their share and some day the people who are actually paying our way through life, the majority of the blue states, will have had enough and start insisting that we pay our own way...the the wailing and gnashing of teeth will begin in earnest.

Dude, think your thoughts through. Maybe there is a reason why all the complaining comes from the states that receive net federal dollars. Perhaps because we get to see it on a daily basis?
