Patterson has always been in a tougher conference than Sumlin.

Let me know when Gary punks your arse in your stadium like Sumlin did.

Was the big 12 tougher than the SEC this year sport?

He's forreals. I see him as a Tressel type coach. As mentioned before, he's treading water with the switch to the 2nd toughest conference and doing it amidst a clusterf#%k that gutted his team before the season even started. He earned more of my loving hatred when he brassballed it & went for two in the 2nd OT in Morgantown FTW. He should get payed if he stays. Texa$ money.

As one who studies trends and analyzes the raw facts:

A) I was also concerned when Auburn hired a 5-19 Gene Chizit from ISU. Concerned that it may not work out based on his prior "performance based history"

B) Concerned that Bobby Petrino 3rd stint in a row would also end poorly due to "lapses is ethical behavior"

Just saying that my analysis has similar concerns here as well.

The truth is ....he is overrated? TCU stepped up in level of competition and lost about the same (4 this yr vs 5 over the last 4 yrs) number of games this year in the Big12 as he did in the last 4 years in that weak sauce conference they were in before.

He has a young team this year, they should be the Big XII Champs next season imo.

And he lost his starting QB. With him they probably win one or two more games.

Ok..the fact he has already lost twice as many games this year than any year in the previous four is not statistically relevant.

That same logic would also explain the fact that Gene was garbage in every year as a head coach without Cam Newton.

Les did pretty well this year with LSU's greatest team ever. Do you have your tickets for the MNC yet?

You think? He has played a high school schedule most seasons and got his team up for one game a year. The little fat man will be great for Arkansas. He can battle State for 5th.

The funny thing is that in their first Big 12 season and only 2 senior starters, TCU has already exceeded what Texas A&M did last year in the Big 12, with an NFL QB.

BCS Bowls this millenium:

TCU - 2
Texas A&M - 0

Lets give him some time when he can actually use Big 12 recruiting to TCU's advantage

If he thought the change from the MWC to the Big12 was difficult.......

Let's take a look as to what exactly TCU has had to put on the field this year.

QB - Freshman Trevoyne Boykin. Good talent, but not there yet as a passer.
RB - True Freshman B.J. Catalon. The 3 headed monster from the past 2 years, Waymon James/Matthew Tucker/Ed Wesley, either injured or left for the NFL supplemental draft.
WR - Only position of experience, but only 2 upperclassmen and the rest are sophomores.
OL - Two true freshman start. Senior center, and a senior that rotates in at guard, but has had too many injuries to be useful.

DL - 2 true freshman and 2 sophomores for the most part. Junior stud Stansly Maponga has been hurt in and out this year. No seniors on this unit.
LB - TCU's weakest position. Walk on running back who came in at 190 pounds Joel Hasley was converted to middle linebacker for the year after being decimated at this position due to grades and the drug bust. Sophomore Marcus Mallet and senior Kenny Cain have rotated at the other linebacker.
S - A junior, a sophomore and true freshman.
C - 2 sophomores.

K/P - Both true freshman

1 senior starter on both sides of the ball for Patterson and 70% freshman starters overall and yet he has managed to win 7 games. I'd say this is his best coaching job yet.

As opposed to the 2010 Rose Bowl team, where 19 of the 22 starters were seniors and 7 of them are currently on NFL rosters.

Long story short: You know nothing about TCU football

Hardly our greatest team ever..however did you know that:

At LSU, Les has had double digit wins 3 years in a row 2 times in just the last 8 years. (2005 to current)

Arkansas has never had double digit win 3 years in a row in the history of the program. (1894 to current)

You also aren't giving him enough credit for what he accomplished in the Mountain West

Yeah the schedules were weak, but I really think people do not understand how talented that 2010 Rose Bowl team was. Not only talented, but senior dominated and experienced. They would have been able to give Oregon or Auburn that year a run for their money.

And that entire team had only one 4-star recruit playing, Jeremy Kerley. The rest were a bunch of 2 stars and walk ons no one else wanted. Including a 2 star QB who had offers from UTEP and TCU only, who is now one of the NFL's rising stars at QB.

Patterson coached those guys up and developed them as players, turning them into 2 star cast offs to 5 star playmakers and future pros.

Stuff like this doesn't show up in strength of schedule numbers.
