Because think skinned people who have no self esteem always assume the terminology is used in a derogatory manner even if it isn't. They have this innate ability to determine intent.

As I understand it, a midget is someone who is correctly proportioned, just in miniature, i.e. Emmanuel Lewis. Dwarfs are more common, Peter Dinklage, etc. They have normal sized torsos with shorter legs and arms. I guess collectively, "little people".
