I don't understand. Are you saying that a white male is incapable of performing the job at hand? Or are you just a straight up bigot?
If you're going to claim that that only a person of XXXX color and XXXX sex can represent XXXX color and XXXX sex of the electorate, why would a straight man ever vote for a lesbian or female vote for a gay male?

Millions of Americans obviously did since they elected those men repeatedly. Who among the Republican members of the House should have been given a chair that wasn't? Please provide as specific example of a member with equal or greater experience on the respective committees, or why experience should be disregarded.
All members of Congress have to get elected by the people from their districts. The Republicans represent more districts than the Democrats. And the vast majority of those districts chose to have a white male represent them. Isn't that where diversity is supposed to start?

While I would theoretically agree that merit should trump all, this is politics and everything is about perception. If the Republicans took a consistent, principled stance on always doing what is best, rather than what is a strategic political position, that would be one thing. But if you are going to cut corners (which you have to do in politics if you want to win), then this is just a good a place as any.
Everyone can pretty much agree that if the GOP does not make inroads with women and latinos, they are doomed over the long term. So it would stand to reason it would be a good idea to at least make a token gesture to these demographics to avoid yet another public perception problem.
And finally, do you really think that of the 200+ Republican house members, the 19 committee chairs are really the "best people"? I'm going to guess that something more than true ability dictated who got a chairmanship.
