Hit the cliff. I am prepared. My kids might have to move home but let's get this over with.

Unless the $1.6 is earmarked for debt reduction only, i.e., to apply directly to existing debt, the tax revenue literally has no positive effect for the country. One can assume they will spend it too on shite.
I hate to break the news to you, but the $1.6 trillion has already been spent. We're trying to figure out how to repay what we borrowed. It doesn't do much good to devote more money to repaying what was borrowed if we are going to turn around and icrease our current borrowing.

I concur...that is my point. Moreover, the revenue generated will be actually money, not the ficticious kind our treasury pisses out. It will be hard earned money. This will evaporate into thin air. This is nothing more than a redistribution scheme, pure and simple.

The article doesn't mention this, but...

The proposal, offered by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner as he made a round of meetings with congressional leaders in the Capitol Thursday, calls for increasing tax rates on incomes over $250,000, a one-year postponement of looming spending cuts in defense and domestic programs, and some $400 billion in savings over 10 years from Medicare and other entitlement programs.
So he is offering up cuts. This is part of negotiating. Of course he will be on high on the $ amount for revenue and low on savings. When negotiating you don't offer up the minimum you are willing to accept.

Isn't that already in place with the ACA? Are they trying to double dip again?

The problem I have with this statement, and this goes for both sides, is this isn't a car sales negotiation or a salary negotiation. This is the health of our country and the livelihood of millions of people. Quit using scare tactics and running mouths and actually go into a room, Constitution negotiating style, and don't leave until you work things out. If people brawl, yell, fight, spit so be it. At least they are being men about it, the media isn't involved, and something might actually happen for once. I promise if they quit this media pissing match they are in and meet face to face for an extended period of time things will change. It is human nature.

I would like to see a table format for this, this text shite is easy to manipulate. But I did read that 400B in spending cuts, but that is 40b a year. A fricking pittance. It needs to be like 500b a year!!!!!

So he is shooting for no cuts but might be willing to settle for a little cut. Sounds like a leader with a firm grasp on the countries monetary problems...

Don't be stupid. There are no cuts in this offer. And, the tax increase is twice as much as Obama campaign on. What is the ratio of cuts to revenue Dean? frick, the argument was 3:1 vs 4:1 previously. What is the ratio in this offer?

He is negotiating, no? There are 2 main players here, Obama and Boehner. They will get this deal done. I feel pretty confident in that.
