People need to start blaming Scwartz. He knows the rule and it's in place for a reason. He doesn't do what he's not supposed to and it's overturned.

A coach reacting on pure emotion isn't an excuse. He's getting paid millions to be the one guy on the sideline who can't lose his wits.

The refs are getting payed outrageous amounts of money to get an easy call like that correct

Plus, it can be used as an unfair tactic to extend the amount of time that the booth has to review it.

No one thinks they didn't deserve a penalty

No way should that null a review from the booth. Hell, take a time out, give them 15 yards, but review the damn play

I agree there should be a 15 yard penalty if a coach throws a challenge flag in that situation.

However,

Making the play unreviewable flies in the face of all logic. The purpose is to get every call correct. That did not happen here and the NFL has made a rule that doesn't allow a call to be corrected. That is awful.

@FO_ASchatz: I love that idea. If you're a coach, why wouldn't you challenge your own game-winning TD in the final minute to prevent a review?

The penalty is fine... But it shouldn't allow refs to get away with a horrific arse call. Review it anyway.

Somewhere Donovan McNabb is laughing at Schwartz for not knowing such an obvious rule.

Looks like you have a bad case of not being able to see the forest for the trees.

But if the flag itself is the penalty which makes it unreviewable what's it matter what bench flag came from

You have to look at the ruling in two parts:

1. Lions get penalized for throwing the challenge flag.

2. You can't benefit on a ruling after a penalty called on you.

Both were called correctly and individually are not terrible rules, but it seems illogical when happening together.

i'ma bet it was a case of the guy who was supposed to make the call wasn't 100% sure, so he didn't blow the whistle and thought someone else would. that someone else wasn't sure. and it was very quickly contagious and turned into a, "Well, we get to review this shite anyway, let him run." Always better to let the play continue.

And then Schwartz went derp.

I really just don't know why it's in place and why it's so severe.

I don't even know what to say. What do you think this guy is getting paid to do? It is absolutely inexcusable for anybody collecting that kind of salary to botch something that important.
