Social Conservatives want to use gov't to restrict gay marriage, abortion and keep up the war on drugs. That's essentially being a liberal with a side of religion. Just using the gov't to advance social conservatism.
Social conservatism is not real conservatism.
An example of a religious right wing extremist that is really a liberal is Rick Santorum.
On the other side of the coin, liberals want to use the gov't to put out redistribution of wealth, more welfare, more food stamps, just overall dependency on the gov't for a comfortable living situation.
