Like it has been said in this thread... I don't think Walmart is the company to frick with.

They are massive and can easily fork out millions to fight the unions legally.

Im in no way a fan of Walmart, but I support them and hope they shut those frickers down.

You know I'm kinda torn on this whole story.

I hate Wal Mart. I hate Black Friday. I hate Unions.

Can they all lose?

WalMart, should issue a statement. "Do to union protests we will be closed on Friday. We realize our customers will not be able to take advantage of our deep discounts. Our stockholders will suffer due to our 4th.qt earnings report." We're sorry Unions dictate life choices to everyone."

We choose not to let the unions dictate to us.

Please make your opinions known to the WhiteHouse....

How is it Obama's fault that a pvt company negotiated poorly with a pvt workers union? Should individuals be legally barred from organizing and negotiating for better wages? There's no doubt worker pensions played a significant part in hostess' collapse, but mgmt was complicit in many ways from poor negotiating to lack of upgrades and awareness of a changing market.

The union problem in the pvt market is also a mgmt problem. The only unions in my view that should be banned are the public sector unions.

There were 80 different pension plans and over 200 collective bargaining agreement!!!!!!! Management was dumb, but the Unions are what drove the company into the ground.

Like I posted in another thread, Hostess kept choosing to give in to demands to live another day and hopefully weather the storm, this time they couldn't.

How the frick do you deal with people like that? There were numerous Unions. So one would come and demand a deal and the company would have to give in to keep going, but as soon as that union got concessions, it would embolden another one to make demands.

Are these people incapable of finding better jobs or leaving the company if they aren't happy?

Just talked to a friend of mine who works for a construction company. They do all their own maintenance and the company is loosely owned by a native guy, who gets native preference for govt contracts.

They are union (state law requirement for the type of work) and their shop mechanics make between $125,000 - $150.000

Field hands make $175.000-$25,000 working 3 12 day shifts a week doing construction and logging. Sweet little deal these folks have going for them with govt preference and union friendly legislation.

I believe labor disputes are a two way street. If the workers feel like they're not being paid or treated fairly, it's perfectly within their right to protest. But at the same time, Walmart is within their right to look for new workers as well.

Yes, both are, but in a lot of those union favored states, the companies hands are tied. They make it almost impossible to fire union workers and even if they do, a lot of times they are required to hire union workers

Its complete bull shite

Jesus H Christ! I have a college degree and only had one job offer in the entire Southeast. I was supposed to be in charge of all of the contracts/contractors/scheduling for the entire state of Louisiana clearing right-of-ways of their trees and debris.

Their offer was $29,500/yr. I couldn't even get benefits for 6 months. That is so outrageous it is almost unbelievable

The problem is that once you let the union into your company many states have laws that make it almost impossible and extremely expensive to get them out.

You agree to a deal but then the union keeps asking for more. The union squeezes the company with threats of work stoppage.

If the company is struggling they can't afford shut downs or union demands and they go under like Hostess.

Laborers cay make way more money than the average college grad in AK. The girls that do the flagging on construction projects make $30-$40/hour and get 70 hrs a week.
