Do you guys shoot steel shot out of older shotguns? (40s, 50s, 60s)

My buddy's dad gave him an old Mossberg from the 60s and he took it to a local gun store and they said there is no way they'd take it on a duck hunt.

Is this how you guys feel as well? I have a few old shotguns but I don't think I've shot steel out of them but would like to take them duck hunting.

Steal is too weak. Buy a new one.

The barrel wouldn't handle the steel shot well and would probably ruin the gun.

Fixing a typo

I wouldnt take the chance, it may hold up perfect but then again it may not. Not the same but I have a old .38 spl from the 60's or 70's (i think) that was my grandfathers, I can shoot +p rounds out of it fine but I have seen similar ruin the barrel, so I stop tring it since the gun had more sentimental value then anything.

Don't chance it. Dad has an Ithaca Mod 37 Featherweight. Got it in 1966. 30" Full Choke. I shot steel out of it on one hunt...but I didn't feel too comfortable doing it. Pattern is still tight..but I won't do it again. And that's because I'm just afraid of it ruining the choke. I've seen the ends of other guns peeled back from steel shot.

You can if it has a modified choke or anything more open than modified. Do not do it out of a full choke.
