I fricking want one.

What are some good brands that won't break the bank? I want to look at something under 1K, then customize it as time goes on.

Check out the Black Friday thread. I didn't read all the listings, but Cabelas has a Bushmaster with a red dot scope for $649...

They are lots of fun, but loud and expensive to shoot. My 2 real ARs usually stay in the safe while I shoot my AR 15-22. Same effect but less racket and hurt on the pocketbook.

Might as well get both though.

Build your own. You can get better quality for cheaper

ETA: I build and sell ARs. I'll give you my finest work (all the best parts you can get) for $2000. I haven't sold it yet because it's too personal and I'm too proud. I'd hook my boy up though. Or I can try and build you a super nice one for under a grand.

You could also probably find one on bayou shooter. Ar-15s can handle a ton of rounds. Many people buy them and load them out, shoot them 300-500 times and put them in the safe. Or you could put one together at your own rate. They are having a gun show at Lamar Dixon this weekend. Every show, more and more ar's come in. I would assume that given our country's current predicament that they will have a ton of black guns and parts.
