Excellent points my good man

[quote]Greivis is not far off of those numbers (which admittedly aren't good). Vasquez is over 40% for his career, though.
The numbers I listed were Kidd's 3pt%, not FG%. The last two years in Dallas were slightly above average, the first 3 years were excellent. Kidd has never been a great shooter, but he became a good enough 3pt shooter in Dallas that defenses had to respect that. Vasquez is 29% and 32% from 3. That is poor and below average.

Now, if you want to compare Kidd's first 3 years, Vasquez again compares favorably. Kidd had more assists, but also played considerably more
You really trying to compare Vasquez to future Hall of Famer Jason Kidd? Time to take of the creole blue glasses, bro.

I'm sorry, but who is better AND available?
Not the issue at all. No one with any sense thinks they need to find a new pg right now. All I said was that long term, I do not believe Vasquez is the answer unless he learns how to hit 3s at a good rate.

Kidd was a decent shooter for 3 years. The time before and after that he was/is borderline terrible.

Big point guards
Slow of foot
High assist/turnover ratio
Poor Shooting
Yes, I'm comparing them. I don't think he is as good as Kidd, but Kidd is a very good comparison to his game. I started talking about Kidd because you left him out of the PG that had serious flaws and won a championship.

Don't patronize me, sis.

That IS the issue. That is what the thread is about. That is why the thread is stupid. You said Vasquez is a backup with no basis for that statement. I take that to mean that you think that there are 30 PGs in the NBA that are better. Sure, I would love an All-star PG, but there are not 30 of those to go around.

Kerr is known for 1 thing, getting MJ a game winning assist

He won a title while shooting the three at a good clip- which Vasquez has not shown the ability to do (29%, 32%, and 32% from 3).

He can't shoot. He can't break defenders down off the dribble without a screen. He turns the ball over too much (though much better so far this year). He can't keep anyone in front of him.
Vasquez is a wonderful passer, great at running a team, has great basketball instincts and appears to be a good leader.
You want to compare him to Kidd because of their FG%? Fine. But Kidd was light years ahead of Vasquez in terms of passing, running a team, rebounding, dribble penetration, and defense.
At this stage in his development, I think he's too limited to start for a contending team. If he improves his shot- which is possible- things could change.

So because there have to be 30 NBA starters at each position, we have to say those are starting caliber players? Morris Peterson, Rasual Butler, Dan Dickau, etc will strongly disagree with your logic.

He was below 35% that year

Yes. That's not to say that starting means you're starting caliber, either. There have to be 30 starters, though. Thus 30 are starting caliber. In my opinion, his numbers have been solid. I just think he and Gordon could create a damn solid backcourt with typical skill sets in unconventional packages. I'm not opposed to bringing in an upgrade, but until then he is our starter and I will enjoy him being top 5 in assists with a guy shooting even worse at the 2.

The reality is that the man lacks the ability to break down defenses on his own. He is a terrible shooter. He cannot guard anyone that has any speed whatsoever. Nothing personal, just the facts. And for those of you who point to his assists, I would remind you that it takes very little to get an assist in the NBA.

Jason Kidd is slower now. He used to have freakish agility back in the day. Could really run the floor for his size

37% in the playoffs v better defenses on the way to a title. If Vasquez can hit 35% or 37% from three, his story changes.

You lost me here. Not sure what you're trying to say.

You're dumb as shite. Sure, it is easy to get "an" assist. However, it's not easy to be top 5 or top 10 in the NBA in assists.
