Cheap hardware store machetes is what I've always used.

I would also pick up a small axe. Fiskars has some really nice ones that have a lifetime warranty on the handle. Bought one from Lowe's a long time ago, but I haven't seen it in years.

I vote w/ the "ditch bank blade", AKA "brush axe." These tools have a number of different names, but mine looks like the previous picture of "ditch bank blade." I also like the previously recommended 2 handed machete from Cold Steel.

You'll kill your back clearing brush with a machete.
Sling blade is what you need.

Not if you have a good Mexican swinging it.

Get one made by Tramontina or Bellato in Brazil. They are great and once you use one, you'll never want to use an American made one again. Since a machete is an essential part of anyone's kit in Brazil, they know how to make them. And the best deal is that they are cheap. I mean like $10 cheap. Order one on the net and you'll see what I mean.

I wouldn't have thought we'd have a 3 pager about machetes.

Get a machete from Ontario Knife Co. You can order from their online store. Same machete supplied to US military. Blade is harder than hard. You won't be sorry.

The hook on the blade is essential. I prefer the first cane knife hook style versus the more squared off hook on the second one. This allows you to pull logs and debris toward you letting whatever is under it slither the other way.
