Exactly. This is what I've been saying all along. The bastardized healthcare model we're implementing is a cop-out to Americans irrational fear of the word "socialized". We need universal, single payer healthcare.

Name me one thing that the government can buy cheaper than you and I. This does nothing to fix the rising cost of healthcare.

Was this not the single most pressing need of health care reform? WTF did they do?

Baloo everyone is covered now. The people who don't have insurance go to the charity hospital's emergency room for primary care. That's efficient? It is about getting more people and more businesses contributing to the pot. Our healthcare system is the most inefficient among first world countries. Where is the Rep plan?Oh yeah Romneycare - what Obamacare is based on. What the brilliant businessman came up with is suddenly economic disaster. Don't start with the state by state crap. What is your plan. More people paying into the system is a good start. That's just common sense. 30 to 45 million stiffing hospitals is not going to work. Myself and my employees pay for that. By far the biggest reason for personal bankruptcy for the middle class is health care bills. That's a great system. What are the repubs in congress offering up as a solution. Nothing.

was referred to an ENT. He was there for 30 minutes, saw the MD for 5 minutes and spent the other 25 talking to his nurse assistant. Has Blue Cross through company but paid $135 when he left. Insurance company sends him a statement which said the visit cost $450, and they covered all but the $135 that he paid. Sounds like a scam to me and we wonder why our health insurance and medical bills are outrageous.

You have something mixed up.

35 minute new patient appointment was most likely billed as a level III E&M. Perfectly normal. $450 is a little high on the charge (mine is $380), but that is really irrelevent.

There is no way in hell your insurance actually paid the enitire $450 unless the physician did more than your letting on. An in office procedure specifically.

What most likely happened was that $135 was the allowable on the level II new patient appointment, you paid it b/c you have a deductible, and they "contractually adjusted" the remainder with the physicians office.

There is no physician on this earth with a $450 allowable on even the most complex new patient visit. So yea...they "covered it all"...but they did not pay that entire charge. Their contract with the physician "covered it".

Other than a poor bedside manner, nothing you described is out of the ordinary, or changing with Obamacare.

hypothetical comparison: the auto industry has gone outrageous in the cost for automobiles. It is ridiculous that it costs $40,000 for a nice SUV that has 3 rows. So, to fix this you think the government should completely take over the car industry. Kill private companies and private jobs. Take more tax money and create more government positions. All because prices are too high.

I'm not saying the government should take over the healthcare system, but your comparison doesn't work for several reasons. For starters, the consumers have the power to dictate the automobile market. If we don't buy $40k SUV's, the company shouldn't be making them. We may need a car, but no one NEEDS the optional $40k SUV. When it comes to healthcare, consumers have no power. If you need treatment, you have to pay for it. Families file bankruptcy trying to afford insulin for their kids or paying for emergency surgeries/treatment. I have less sympathy for the person losing their SUV b/c they could only afford the corolla when they are driving the yukon.

What was done in the visit? Did they draw blood to send for RAST testing to see ifhe had antibodies to specific allergens? A lot can go in in a doctors office besides sitting in a room talking to the doctor.

Also, your son could have stayed his arse at home with a runny nose.

We need universal, single payer everything, don't we? it's the most efficient economic model out there, right? So? Why limit it to healthcare?

Good Lord, do you think this started with Obama? Get a grip man...

I went to a clinic one morning after stepping on a razor blade in my bathroom. The doctor walked in, looked at the wound without touching it, said they couldn't sew it up, had a nurse bandage it, and gave me prescription for 6 "Naproxen"(after paying $15 to fill it I googled and found out it was Aleve). Two weeks later I got a statement from my insurance company indicating that stellar ten minute service call was $375, after my copay of $30. Add the $15 I paid for 6 over the counter Aleve pills, and I'd say the medical industry screwed my brains out that day.

This was in 2006...apparently the golden years of pre-Obama health care.

Why should you decide what everyone "needs"?

If I require a service, I pay for it.

Our health care system is broken. We need to look at what other countries do and take the best of them for a system that would work here in the US of A. Study countries like Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, Mexico, the UK, New Zealand, Austrialia and see what we can learn from them. They all do health care better than we do, let's learn from them. We don't need to invent the wheel here, it already exists.

Why aren't the GOP pressing this issue (or the Dems for that matter)? It would be a winning issue with the people yet no one presses for it.
