Very much so, but more like "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest".

re: Why do people buy new vehicles?

I've never been a car guy. I have 3 cars, a sc300, a es300 and a 95 honda accord that i drive around to do regular shite in.

the sc300 is cleaner that about 90% of the shite on the road today and i get arse with it no problem. rims, kit job, the whole bit. and i if sold it to day i can probably sell it for what i bought it for if not a little bit more with all the work i have put into it and i have had it since freaking 2004.

I'm not against new cars but I'm against making payments on cars that i am not 100% in love with frick that. The closest i ever came to buying a new car is the new XF and even that I don't like it that much.

when i was selling cars years ago I worked for infiniti. I actually pulled a doctor's credit report.. on his sheet he put he made 83,000 a month (and he had pay subs too wasn't bull shitting)

483 credit score. he literally had to make a 15 thousand dollar deposit on the car to get approved.

re: Why do people buy new vehicles?

Buying a certified per-owned vehicle used to be the way to go. However, as of today, most hold their value extremely well, almost to the point that looking at new makes financial sense if you are in a position to do so - most aren't. But understand there is still wiggle room in a used car purchase, however it harder to know what the vehicle is worth at wholesale, unless you are able to get your hands on a "black book."

The problem with buying new is that many people don't know how to negotiate when buying a vehicle. They quickly volunteer they have another vehicle to trade in, negotiate from MSRP, believe that rebates aren't allowed to be taken from invoice, tell the sales person how much they are looking to spend and show their true emotions when they go for a test run. And the dealership knows this, because people buy based upon how they feel - which gives the car dealership the leverage.

So all in all, buying CPO or new doesn't really matter anymore, because many of you don't know how to arm yourself to get the best deal possible. You think you do, but you really don't. Everyone wants to say they got a great deal, because deep down inside, they want to feel great about making their purchase.

Either way, the average vehicle payment is now $482 dollars stretched out over 60 + months, which illustrates my point that people buy off of emotion and live their life based upon monthly payments.

No one said depreciation isn't real you dumb twat. You threw a bunch of numbers around, which by your own example were wrong, then spouted off that we should all check with our accountants to learn something about depreciation.

Stop bringing up gender, because you're the only person that has brought your gender into this discussion. It's also not about disliking you, even if I do. You made a fairly outrageous claim, then didn't provide any sort of evidence to support it. when I and others called you out on it, all you could say was check with your accountant. It has nothing to do with you personally, but you won't believe that because you think everyone on this board is out to get you because you're a woman.

You are such a shitty poster, and don't remotely live up to your screen name. If you truly were "too frat to care" you would know the answer to this.

I said the same thing until gas starting eating me up.

I pay $600 a month (paying x1.25 of the note) and saving fuel. I did upgrade from gas to diesel with double the MPG.

Money in the bank in my case. I have a 120m commute to/from work.

I do something similar to this, except I use a portion of the extra paycheck every six month to put at least an extra $1000 toward my payment. Works out to about the same percentage, but doesn't affect my monthly budget. It's taking about 2 years off the term of the loan.

Some ppl might call it a downgrade, I call it an upgrade.

Went from an '03 Tacoma to a '13 Passat TDI. Playing on buying a cheaper full size truck to pull my boat and what not. I commute a fair amount miles and the saved fuel cost really pays for the note.

I'd say it's a downgrade as well. Toyota is a great vehicle. I looked at Tacomas for a long time. Glad you're happy though with that you have.

Why do people buy:

1. New Boats
2. Pay for season football tickets
3. Pay to play golf
etc.
etc.
etc.

Bought a new 2008 Dodge Ram 4 door ext cab for $18,300 + TT&L in 08. Friend bought the same 2008 truck with same features 3 years later used for $19K. My KBB value 4 years later is $17K

They depreciate so quickly. Even if you have all the money in the world like every OT baller, I don't understand the logic behind it. As soon as you drive off the lot it's worth less. Discuss if you will.

See above!

More than any other topic, the phrase "your mileage may vary" applies to this thread.

Some people may feel better about buying a used vehicle for various reasons, while others would want a new vehicle, again, for various reasons.

The blanket statement by the OP illustrates his lack of real world experience--otherwise, he'd understand this.
