What about Tommy Casanova? Don't remember if he was SS or FS but he was no slouch.

He and Reid are the best 2 that I can think of. Different styles but similar results as far as production goes.

Just stopping by to say in my opinion, Landry's best year at LSU was his 1st.

I remember Damien James coming up big from time to time.

Still, Dirty Thirty is probably my favorite LSU safety even if he wasn't the "best" in coverage.

I love all the people claiming so and so that played safety wasn't that good in pass coverage.

I guess some don't know the difference in a safety and a corner.

Laron = Reid and both > Chad Jones

I would take Reid in pass coverage over Laron, but I never recall Laron taking so many bad angles when coming up to defend short passes or defend the run like Reid has this year.

chad jones was pretty meh outside of 2-3 great plays, IMO.

Yes. Sure. He was a hell of a player and a great enforcer. But thats all he really was. Bad pass coverage and its starting to show in the NFL. Hes had a solid year for the Jets this year though. But in the NFL they would rather have a pass coverage FS rather than a run stopping FS. Hes still 1 of my all time favorite Tigers.

Casonova, Hunt, Chad Jones, Steltz, Ryan Clark and Carrier were all great Safeties for LSU. Clark is by far the best NFL FS out of these players. I consider Laron in this group too. They are all good players, but I cant put Laron ahead of any of them. Physicality and intimidation, yes he was bigger and badder than all of them. But he was an average in pass coverage. Reid has a chance to be in this group too, but that remains to be seen.

Danny McCray gets a lot of hate by LSU fans because he gave up a lot of big plays, but we had him out of position. We had him playing the deep FS, when his game was better suited for a middle rover SS. The Cowboys love the guy and hes been a starter/ big time contributor since his rookie year.

And 1 of the more underrated safetys weve had at LSU was Brandon Taylor IMO. 1 of the best tacklers weve had.
