yeah so La gets $1.78 for every buck we send. That probably does not include all the FEMA monies and CoE work. Maybe the Feds would like to get rid of us. Picture how much money they could save on the Corps of Engineer work. Just let La figure out how to keep all our ports dredged and operable, and we'll be on our own for the next set of floods and hurricanes.

I wonder how many people who signed this petition voted for the other big government candidate.

If this moronic idea were to ever escalate to a meaningful movement, all the US would have to do is create an embargo on all goods to the seceding states and watch them collapse before they could even begin to take flight. The US economy is too powerful for another nation to succeed by withdrawing from it. edit: Does anyone else see the irony in this petition? These people are signing this petition because they have such little respect for the President and the federal government that they want to secede, and to do so have created a petition asking those same institutions if they may do so. That is like a child who thinks their parents are too strict asking them for permission to run away from home.

Put your name on critical, embarrassing petition and send it to Obama that has your name on it. Sounds like somebody wants to be audited. My question as new poster, Is this an OT baller move to sign the petition and fight, or do OT ballers have the secretary sign this thing?

If Louisiana went through with it, then the Midwest would be in quite a predicament without all the trade that flows up the mighty Mississippi. No I don't see any embargo happening. That would be unwise.

A few of the hardcore south states could pull this off together. We all kinda need each other to make it happen(oil/military etc.). Until that happens, prepare yourself for the worst. Santa Claus ain't going away. He will have a different form come 2016. God Bless America!
Sure because the last time we tried this, from about 1861 to 1865, it really went well for us.

They should just put small print at the bottom to say signing this petition will indicate how ignorant and butt hurt you truly are.

Wouldn't exactly be a smart move by the FedGov. If Texas and Louisiana were to join up and secede, they would combine for a greater GDP than each of Canada, India, Russia, and Australia. Enforcing an embargo on them would not be an insignificant detriment to the rest of the US's economy. Sad that you (or anyone) would support such a thing to punish a region that wants nothing to do with the direction the country is moving. Let me ask you this: if the White House asked Canada to join the US as, say, 10 different states, and they refused, would you support an embargo on them? Now take into account historical fallacy, what is the difference between that and Texas/LA seceding?

Really? New Orleans would be fricked. All they'd have to do is cut off trade between here and north of here, and New Orleans would have no where to send anything that comes in, and would have no export trade. The midwest would export all of their grain, food and everything else via different rivers or rail to other ports. Meanwhile, all imports would simply go to a different port.

No. You can't just shut down the port of new Orleans. Clearly you don't understand how trade works. The cheapest fastest route is the most sought after, and that happens to be floating barges up the Mississippi. You cent just revert all that tonnage to trucks and cargo planes. It's expensive and wasteful. Considering how many states rely on that its retarded to say you can just turn it off like throwing a light switch. Louisiana would run the table with the control of that port.
