Well I heard from my DC sources that the Prez didn't want him to go. Petraeus submitted his resignation and the Prez told him to think about it some more. Petraeus insisted and the Prez accepted.
The administration felt the general had enough political capital and star power to get over the tarnish and still effectively do his job but this was something personal to the General. He and Chuck Hagel (former republican senator from Nebraska) were the top SECDEF names for when Panetta leaves by Sept '13

Yea.. Of course that would be reported and released.. You don't think little stories are floated around DC with a purpose? If anyone thinks this affair hasn't been known about and being held to vest for a very long time they are very naive.

NBC now saying she is under investigation by the FBI to see if she had access to secret material
Slate now reporting it is her

Possible.. She does have a shite load of ties to the media. We also know that someone was leaking info at the wrong times against the will of the administration. Right after one story would come out a leak would occur to make put the previous story at odds. I have seen some speculation that the leak was Petraeus.
