The Governor in The Walking Dead: Good casting or not?

I am having trouble not laughing when he talks. He sounds like Johnny Bravo or a bad Elvis impersonator. Is this by design?

I like him. I don't find his accent to be the over exaggerated accent that is typical in a lot of tv and film.

He's definitely not the comic Governor, and I keep thinking he's like a poor man's Liam Neeson for some reason. That being said, I think he's okay. I'm just waiting to see if he goes full psycho or continues to be cool even when doing some messed up things.

I'm on the fence. His voice is a little distracting.
Although I have to say that as a whole the acting/character work on TWD isn't great.

his American accent is horrendous and I find it very distracting. focus more on how he sounds than what he is saying

Why can't they ever find anyone with an actual Southern accent for these roles?
Neither Rick nor the Governor are necessarily doing a bad job with their accents, but both do sound a little bit forced at times.

Maggie is also British.
I like the Governor as cast. He fits well for what the series is trying to do with his character.
