What's a good flashlight that won't break the bank?

It's going to be a gift from my brother to me. I don't want him to spend $100+ on a streamlight, but I would like to have a good dependable flashlight for the woods. Thoughts?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a good maglight. It isn't as cool as a surefire or some of the lights that you can spotlight aircraft with, but they are durable, work great, and don't cost a fortune in batteries. Or you can get the nice rechargeable one for about $90. LINK
For a little more you can bump up to a Pelican light (same company that makes the waterproof cases). I have heard good things about the Super Saberlite. I believe you can find it online for around $60. LINK
Another alternative would be to get a good headlamp, I honestly use a headlamp more than a flashlight when I am throwing decoys or walking in the woods in the dark. I have a Petzl TacTikka, they run $60 on Cabela's and I would be lost without it now. LINK

How big do you want it? I have the small 2 AA battery streamlight. I think it runs around $40. It is AWESOME especially walking to and from the stand. It fits anywhere and is extremely bright.

Get in contact with Watchmaker from Bayoushooter. Makes some great lights with Surefire shells

Headlight with a red mode. Rechargeable to save money or with batteries for convenience.

I don't want a spotlight to use walking to the stand. I bought a small flashlight a couple of years ago that runs on a single AA battery. That battery will usually last the whole season and works perfectly to and from the stand without lighting up the whole woods.
I also keep a maglight in the truck if I need it to track a deer after dark. I had one of those expensive Browning flashlights but Tigerdeacon Jr. lost it. I am sure it is in a pile of his toys.

Black Diamond Icon Headlamp 2012 model. 200 Lumens with various diming modes and a red light mode. One of the brightest headlamp on the market right now especially for the size - shite is badass. Also waterproof to three feet. Uses 4 AA batteries and costs 80 bucks
You can still find the 2011 model for about 30-40 bucks but it is only 100 lumens and not waterproof. Uses 3 AA batteries
Why would anyone use a flashlight when you can use a headlamp and have both hands free?

Have had the same light for bout 1 1/2 years. Very pleased w/ it. The rubber covering over the on/off switch develeop a tear, but I "fixed" it by covering it w/ a small piece of black electrical tape. I don't like to spend lots of money on flashlights for fear that I'll break it or lose it before getting my money's worth. I've been very happy w/ the above Cree flashlight.

According to all the flashlight forums, this is the one to get.

I will be getting one soon to keep in my truck and if it performs as described, I will get another for my AR-10. It has a good flood beam but a solid spotlight center that will go over 150 yards. With 123A batteries it produces over 700 lumens and last over 2.5 hours. At lower settings, such as 60 lumens, it will last over 20 hours. It also accepts many different types of batteries, not just the 123A batteries.
Again, hundreds of people recommend this light and its worth a look.

Its no problem. I just got done researching lights over the weekend. Started by looking at the typical Streamlight and Surefires but wasnt impressed. Spent a lot of time looking at specialized fourms and found that light. It will last where the cheap ones wont and will do more than the expensive ones for cheaper. Nothing else, type XT11 (the model number) into Google and compare it to other lights. Chances are it will come out on top but if not, then you found something even better.
