bad guys

Have shut down Becks old brewery, Hoegarden, Boddingtons, Rolling Rock, and others. Fans are complaining of reduction in quality too

reduced Stella from 5% ABV to 4.8%

I never believed what they said at first, they just want the brand name, the cut to quality was going to be one of first to go. Sure Chicago brewery will be shut within a few years

Good article.

Didn't realize what they are doing to the worldwide beer supply and how much they controlled.

Added a few more beers to my do not drink list...

I posted that article in a thread last week where UtlimateHog was siding with AB InBev. He ignored the article. According to him, AB InBev is the best.

From the article:

"In a telephone interview from Munich, Willy Buholzer, AB InBev’s director of global hops procurement, cheerfully insists that the company still brews the traditional way with Hallertauer Mittelfrüh. He says the reason that AB InBev stopped buying it was that it has a surplus. “We just have too much right now,” Buholzer says. “We need a break for a couple of years.”

Is it even possible to store hops for a couple of years? If so, don't the hops degrade significantly over time? I call BS on this answer. Seems like they just wanted to buy cheaper hops from a different supplier.

This.
Every single decision from this company is based on saving a few pennies wherever possible. Quality and loyalty mean nothing.

They might break it down into hop extract.

Nah. I have to believe they have the capability to brew good beer, they just have no interest in actually doing so.

ETA: Although, ever since the merger a lot of the old long time AB guys have been leaving the company to start their own micro breweries in STL.

Microbreweries? I would be interesting to see if any of them come up with something worth a shite.

I guess they would be trying to clone the old Budweiser? If so, that would be very hard to do. Budweiser is an extremely hard beer style to make perfect since it has no flavor all off flavors are heightened. Brewing a full bodied ale is much easier.

Schlafly is a good micro up there, but it's not one of the ones I'm referring to, it's been around for a while.

I think Urban Chesnut was started by an old AB guy. I've had their Zwickel before and it was quite tasty.

Not that I know of, I think they're all just doing like passion project kind of things.
