so like 6-8 minutes a game?

and no team rests all 5 starters at once. that's my point.

I think a lot of people in this thread are confused about this...also about the definition of a role player.

The maximum amount of money a player can sign for is contingent on the number of years that player has played and the total of the salary cap. The maximum salary of a player with 6 or fewer years of experience is either $9,000,000 or 25% of the total salary cap (2010–11: $14,511,000), whichever is greater. For a player with 7–9 years of experience, the maximum is $11,000,000 or 30% of the cap (2010–11: $17,413,200), and for a player with 10+ years of experience, the maximum is $14,000,000 or 35% of the cap (2010–2011: $20,315,400).[9].

hard to trade rookie deals for proven players.

They currently have $7.5m in cap space and are going to have around $14m in cap space next year. More if they increase the cap. I could easily see them dealing 2-3 of their younger guys and landing a big time forward or a point guard if Lin isn't working out. Jones, White, Patterson, Morris and Motiejunas all have value.

I would love to bring in Harden as part of a "big two" or "big three". But I wouldn't give him a max contract and build my team around him.

well the problem is that players better than harden aren't exactly easy to acquire

houston went for gasol. stern fricked them

houston went for dwight, but that didn't work out

houston got harden. he wasn't their first choice, but he's as good as they could get

Perhaps this season but let's think long term

long term OKC took a huge gamble. if martin doesn't re-sign as a reasonable rate or lamb doesn't turn into something great, OKC is going to have a void. that's a risk. i understand why they assumed that risk, but it's a risk

Not only did it not work out, but Orlando is an organization full of mentally disabled bitches.

We must highlight that.

Cap space is cool if they are going to add free agents.

As far as trading rookies, it's hard to trade a cheap rookie contract for a proven player that makes more money. The numbers have to match. Besides if these rookies prove to be of any worth, it would be stupid to trade them

i'm sure they're going to try. will they get one? i dunno. houston doesn't seem to be a target location

when you're in that situation you have to try and trade for malcontents, overpay guys in FA, or just sign mercenaries

trading for malcontents is the most successful option, but it's pretty risky

Those rookies arguably have more value before they step on the court. Lamb got them good value, Montejunas and Jones were rumored in big deals. If those guys end up sucking then the ROI is substantially lower

i agree

the best thing about rookies is that they're on rookie deals. even if they're mediocre, it's better than paying for similar efficiency than signing the next devin harris or maggette

He struggled at times as a 3rd and 4th option last year. Had a bad finals. Likely he will be a solid starter, shooting 40% and getting 15-18 a game...they are paying him too much, he is not happy with the move, etc.

He disappeared in the finals, but other than that, he was a top 20 player in the league last year.

I'll be shocked if he shoots 40% with 15 ppg. That's pretty terrible

He hovered around 50% from the field most of last year. 40% would shock me

- Career 12.7 ppg and 44% from field
- 2012 16.8 ppg and 49%

Last year, he averaged 10 field attempts per game. I do not see him being able to take on more scoring burden, when opponents game plans will focus on stopping him more than when he was with OKC. I don't think he can be a dominate scorer, but I don't really know...hope he can. I just see 15-18 ppg with lower shooting % against tighter D.

The numbers don't have to match if 1 team has cap space. All that matters is that the team over the cap would be taking back less salary.

The Thunder averaged 79 field goal attempts a game last year. Durant and Westbrook combined for 38 field goal attempts a game. That didn't leave Harden with a lot of attempts.
