Steer her back to the rules on page one and ask her to make up her top 20. We need more female views on this. The 70's was a very violent decade for film. It would be nice to see if a woman appreciated all of these violent movies. Just ask her to put Mama Tigah at the top.

There does not seem to be as much variety of movies this time around. A lot of the same movies on most lists.

I think it's because we're younger and the 70s canon is so established. It's just hard to break free of received wisdom on this one. I know I can't really do it. I spent my whole life being told how great these movies were, I never approached them as a tabula rosa. Also, as you go back in time, its less likely we've SEEN obscure movies. Movies come out now and we all make our decisions on what to see. But to approach an older movie, its much more difficult to stumble upon things off the beaten track. You have to intend to see it.

I was thinking that was a big part of it. Most of us grew up in the 80's and 90's and saw more of those movies. More recent movies get played on TV more often. The older movies that get re run are the great ones that are dominating this list. And it is a strong decade. There's less variation in the top 10-20 movies of the 70's than other decades on most lists I've seen. I also wonder if they didn't just make more movies in later decades. The Studio system ended in the early 60's. I'd guess that's ultimately lead to more independent films? Just speculating on that or course, but overall i would think there are more movies being made now than 50's years ago.

I appreciate 70's movies, just like earlier decades...60's/50's etc for their greatness, how good they are, well-made...and the like. But I'm not emotionally invested in them like 80's movies. Those are personal. When you're growing up you connect the movies of the time to who you are and they mean more because they take you back to that time/place when you saw them in the theater as an experience. Most every 70's movie people saw later on VHS on TV and it came from another generation.

I'm old and I didn't come up with anything off the wall. I saw all of these movies except for a couple in the theater like everyone else back then. Not too many people had VCR's until the 80's. When we got them and movies became available, they only made VHS movies of the most popular current films. I don't know when they started releasing older movies but it took a while to figure out there was a huge market for them.. Also no one really had cable until the mid-eighties. After cable people started recording the odd, little known, time killer movies off HBO. If you didn't see it in the theater, you didn't see it. If it wasn't really popular, I don't think they ever produced it on VCR. ETA: There are more old movies out on DVD than there ever were on VCR.

Sorry it took so long. I have literally went crazy living in a basement Norman Bates style since the Bama loss. Devastated. I would blow up on somebody in every thread on the Rant if I click on it. Can't handle the Saban is the greatest coach of all time and Les is crap talks that are surely floating around like a turd 24/7. They were better than us for one quarter + a minute in a half. That clearly makes Saban 100X better than Les. Bama scored their second touchdown a few plays after the most aggreguious play of the game, a non holding call when their O Lineman horse collared Mingo to the ground on a swing pass to Yeldon when Mingo had the angle. Instead of 3rd and 30 from the 50 it's 1st and 10 from the 20. Ugh. And why Chavis decides to switch to PREVENT DEFENSE!!! blows my mind. There wasn't 40 seconds left when they had to go deep. Bama was probably like o sweet they're giving us 10 yards every play, I'll take it. 10 yds 10 yds 10yds 10yds Touchdown thank you have a nice day I'm A.J. McCarron I'm a douche so I'm going to cry now I have a freaking giant chest tattoo lol. I've ranted on almost everything I wanted to say about the game and it's on the M/TV board. That felt good. Sorry I can't go to the Rant right now thank you for being so kind. Now on to my list. Turns out the 70's wasn't that hard for me. There was not a lot of obscure movies I have watched like the 00's that I just assumed there would be. And because of this list I've realized I like the 60's a good bit more than the 70's. Thought the 70's is top heavy with some of the best movies ever. Though all the top 5 of all the decades are some of my all time favorites. So yeah. 1. Godfather 2. Godfather II 3. Chinatown 4. The Muppet Movie 5. The Outlaw Josey Wales 6. Star Wars 7. The Last Waltz 8. Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory DON'T HATE ON MY CHILDHOOD 9. Taxi Driver 10 Star Wars 11. One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest 12. Alien 13. Days of Heaven 14. Rocky 15. The Conversation 16. A Clockwork Orange 17. Grease DONT HATE ON MY CHILDHOOD 18. Jeremiah Johnson 19. Deliverance 20. Superman
