i have read a number of posters over the last few years that have screamed and demanded for miles head and that LSU hire the head coach of....

TCU
West Virginia
Boise State
Florida State
University of South Florida
South Carolina
Petrino

in '08 the list was even longer. the fact is that when this coach was being screamed for they were having a good year. less miles is a better coach than any one of these guys and wins a lot more consistently. no flash in the pan with our coach.

I do not prefer any coach over Miles, I just wish our passing games was better.

My pick is Washington, though I doubt we'd do better than we are. I just like that guy.

I like Les too.

Just wished the Les of today and tomorrow would be better than the Les of 1/9. Is that asking too much? Just learn a simple lesson.

Threads like this are always illogical, because they fail to take account of context and circumstance. For example, the mere fact that Les Miles wins more games at LSU than some other coach at, for example, USF or Boise State is really irrelevant and doesn't necessarily prove that Miles is the "better" coach. LSU obviously has a much more fertile recruiting base, vastly better facilities, and a more storied traditional that either USF or Boise State. Naturally, the head coach of LSU benefits from those circumstances.

I'll prove my point with an anecdote. When he was at Michigan State, Saban went 19-17-1 between 1995 and 1997. During that same time period, DiNardo went 26-9-1 at LSU. He even beat Nick Saban head to head in the Independence Bowl. Now, does that mean that DiNardo was a better coach than Saban? Of course not. No one in their right mind would contend as much. Rather, DiNardo benefitted from LSU's recruiting base while Saban had to make do with lumbering northerners. Saban was always the better coach, but he couldn't fulfill his potential until he came to a school with facilities, resources, institutional dedication to football, and a fertile recruitng base. (In fact, Saban recognized that LSU was a "sleeping giant" and that is precisely why he had Jimmy Sexton approach LSU.)

Similarly, I am quite certain that there is some bright young football coach in America who could come to LSU, blossom when provided with LSU's inherent advantages, and win NC's here. Great football coaches aren't THAT rare. They aren't once in a generation geniuses, like Einstein or Shakespeare.

All of this is, of course, idle speculation. Miles isn't going anywhere. So I just hope the offense improves, the staff learns from its mistakes, and we can win another NC.

Well, some dude yesterday said we don't even have the best coach in LA so he thinks Ohhh La La, LaTech and ULM belong on your list as well.

I would be happy with a real, innovative, aggressive young OC. In that case, not necessary to change the head coach.

I would only take Saban over Les. He is better than all the others.

If LSU doesn't look towards the NFL they are crazy. Not many good coaches in college. Saban is about it.

Says much about the mentality that exists here. Not fussin man, I understand where you're coming from. But taking a step back and considering what universe would exist where this type OP seems needed...the TR.
