Not true. He's a master martial artist and swordsman as well. Now, those skills are improved as he ages and matures, but he's always been at the peak of human levels as far as athletic ability and fitness are concerned.
It's also been hinted at that he's a mutant/metahuman.
Not always man. He might've learned some moves from Black Canary over time but at best he was in peak human shape coming off the island. On the show, he's coming straight off the boat with some sick moves. How do you learn that by yourself on an island?

I'm going off the DC Wiki for a list of powers and attributes. I haven't been into comics in quite awhile. The last one I actually picked up was Old Man Logan, but I was a fan of Green Arrow. Like most heroes, he just has these abilities. In the world of the show, it will probably be explained by revealing more about his time on Starfish Island.

That's what I'm thinking. Hoping actually. I want to see flashbacks from his time on the island.

I anxious to see how they balance three things:
- Adventure of the week stuff, with the list in his leatherbound book
- Flashbacks to tell his story over the last 5 years
- The current timeline arcs for all the characters
Green Arrow is not a character I'm familiar with at all, but the pilot episode definitely got me hooked right away.

If nothing else, he's a billionaire before the crash, billionaires do crazy things with their money.. martial arts is one of those things. It could very well be that he was already good at martial arts before he was trapped on the island, and because of the island putting him in the best shape of his life.. he can now do that much more, simply because of his physical potential.
He would have had to of hunted etc. on the island, so moving quickly - over mountainous regions etc. would have helped him with his fast and quiet movement.. If they go away from someone else being on the island, I would just move towards him having been trained before the island.
That being said, his bow looks special made, and certain things he did in his "lair," I don't think he was completely cut off from all human civilization on the island.. something happened on that island. (maybe that island was very popular, but he ended up having to kill a bunch of people who tried to take him from the island by force?)

Spoilers
At the beginning as he is being rescued there is a mask with an arrow through it by the shore. That looks very similar to a a dude named deathstrokes mask. I'm not huge into his info , but believe he is a mercenary/assassin type. If he was trapped on island with him - training would have occured. Remember his body is covered by scars - some burns and some slashes. Those aren't all survival scars.
Have to think the flashbacks will reveal more.

Canon has the bow being given to him as a gift shortly before the shipwreck. Ollie has a fondness for Robin Hood. The bow is supposed to be a replica.
He wasn't alone on the island either...but when they rescued him...he was alone.

Goddammit you're right!
I forgot all about Deathstroke being in this, and I guess he trains him. Awesome.

fricking Deathstroke. How awesome.
Like someone else said, I don't know all that much about Green Arrow. The only thing I really know is from the Dark Knight Returns graphic novel whenever he helps Batman beat up Superman. I definitely liked the pilot to this though.

What comic book was he. Was he in other popular comic books or had his own?
Are all comic book superhero's billionaires?
The old ruby is a 10

Green Arrow and yeah he's pretty iconic in the DC world

He started out as a pretty big ripoff of Batman.
Arrow Cave, Arrow Car, sidekick named Speedy.
The second a boxing glove arrow shows up in Ollie's quiver on the show, I'm out.

From what I remember he has had his own on and off for years. He's been around since like 1941 or something. Some of the most popular ones he was in were with Green Lantern in the 70s. Lantern was the follow the law type guy and Arrow was a bit of an anarchist. Actually, the mayor of NY (or President, don't remember) commended the comic book because they had a story arc where Speedy, Green Arrow's sidekick, was addicted to heroin. This might be why they are showing his sister, named Speedy, as taking pills in that first episode.

It seems like it with the first episode. Not that it matters because it was a great premiere

Dude! It's awesome! So excited!
ETA: VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY!!! Glad you liked it! New BA / Fear Show? I think so!
ETAA: PoI and Alphas tends to have a bit more.. seriously discussion. Arrow seems like we can keep with the mythos type talk, like we have in Fringe!
