got a Lowrance Mark 4 I want to install on my kayak.

First thing is to get a battery and somehow make a battery box for it to be waterproof that can sit in my front hatch.

Second thing is what to do with the wires. For the time being, I am going to leave the front hatch slightly open and run them thru but want to find something better in the future.

Also, I want everything to be portable so I can remove it when I don't need it.

I know, that is why I want it to be removed. Nothing permanent. I fish a lot of deep water and offshore.

Holy shite.

I got a bass boat that doesn't have a working "fish finder". We still catch fish though.

Fishfinder on a kayak may be a little overkill.

Overkill IMO, but to each their own. Is there a battery on board?

I recently lost a kayak tournament from the lack of a fishfinder. dropshotting in 70 ft water is tough with no fishfinder.

Yes I go offshore in a kayak. How else am I suppose to catch Kings, tarpon, etc.

Someone actually has the balls to host an offshore kayak tourney? Sounds like a dozen lawsuits waiting to happen. How do you fight a tarpon and not take waves on? It's hard enough fighting a fish standing in a boat...

Go Texas Fishing Forum or here TX Kayakers and look through the Forums. I've seem several threads on installing FFs on kayaks. In a big TX reservoir, you need a fish finder to consistently find bait schools or gamefish if you venture away from the shoreline.

And YouTube has lots of videos on this too.

I would think a GPS could come in handy, although I could easily look at maps beforehand/bring them with me. Also a depth finder for finding deep pockets for winter trout. Currently electronics free though

You need to buy a 12 v gel cell battery. They have them on amazon. Get a one amp inline fuse holder and fuse or as specified in your owners manual. You should have plenty of power and transducer cable. If I were you, I would just shoot through the hull and then you can have all of your hatches sealed. I use a tupperware container instead of a battery box because the inside of my kayak stays relatively dry. Look online for ways to mount your transducer.

You don't need no stinkin fish finder. Take that crap off and go minimalist. Your back and knees will appreciate it.
