Last year was a stellar defense and stellar special teams creating a short field and a ton of turnovers that meant that the offense needed to only be average to compete. Last year LSU had a turnover margin of +20 (second only to OkState). That is a massive number and not sustainable. The previous year our margin was 8, and before that is was 4, and before that it was -1. Turnover margin is highly volatile.

Likewise the Offense was number 17 in points per game last year, but number 86 in yards per game. How did we score so many points with so few yards? Because we had short fields all year long. Alabama was number 20 in points per game with a very similar offense, but they had almost 100 more yards per game than us.

It's not a question of how much you run versus how much you pass, it's about changing things up when what you are doing isn't working. We try very few screens and when we do it's usually a back coming out of the backfield. What bout WR screens from a 3 or 4 wide set to get the receivers a little comfort and confidence catching the ball? Quick passes across the middle? Misdirection in the run, instead of trying to jam it up the middle 9 times out of 10? There are a ton of different things you can do to try to correct for a lack of ability at certain positions and this team doesn't do any of them.

Every game where our o-line struggles to create lanes we fail to score. If you're going to put every egg you've got into the "o-line better be able to run over the d-line" basket then of course things are going to go pear shaped as soon sa that doesn't happen.

And this happened in the NC game. Hence RR leaving, Shep saying he was leaving, the tweets from players after the game. Maybe even before wene JL was benched, I don't know. But I think Les has lost the O.

Regardless of whether Les may have "lost" any part of the team or if anyone believes his calls are not effective, it is the players' role to execute.

It is not their job to worry about strategy. Does there come a point where the plays would work if done executed with passion?

With their attitude, we fail before the ball snaps.

Never had it in the first place. We have a sparse, vanilla "three-yards-and-a-cloud of dust" scheme and and o-line that doesn't pass protect or run block particularly well. Les seems to have a script for the entire game that CANNOT BE DEVIATED FROM.

The team doesn't believe in this bullshite offense anymore

I said the same thing after last weekend. And it appears to be true. You can't bullshite the players they know. They do not have the confidence in the game plan anymore. When a team like Townsend leaves Tiger stadium talking shite your season is fricked. Miles has lost this team becuase of his fricking ground and pound big ten play not to lose offense. It is only going to get worse. Just read his fricking statements he really believes his stragety is sound and it's all on the players.

I agree. I cannot see why we don't at least try some misdirection plays, counters and at least some formations to draw defenders out of the box. Drives me crazy.

I think this is where we miss TM7 the most. The guy was like a lightning rod for positive energy. I think more than anything this team is missing that "spark". Many times last season it took a big special teams play by TM7 to get the team on a roll and get the energy up. I would imagine it takes a lot of passion to play along the O-line and without a spark, it has to be demoralizing to get beaten time and time again.

Like the Auburn game LSU looked good on their opening drive. Lost a fumbled snap on the go ahead TD and settled for a FG on the other.

What changed after this? Did the opposing D make quick adjustments, or did miscues on later drives kill the momentum?

LSU came out the gates swinging, and did a good job of mixing the pass and run. Are the coaches only scripting the first 10 plays? What is going on later in the game?

It seems like LSU has come out flat every game we have had this year. Maybe I am just comparing it to last season when it was almost impossible for Les to keep the players in the tunnel, but they seem lifeless and going through the motions now when they run onto the field and while on the sidelines.

I'm not saying that this teams lacks leadership because honestly, I have no idea (like the rest of you all) what goes on behind in the scenes, in the locker room, team meetings, and so forth, but this team appears to lack leadership and determination. Hell, it's almost like they lack energy.

Misdirection and using quick passes and draws. Try to get to the edge using ford and shep. Repeatedly running up the gut is not the answer.

You are correct sir! 2nd half drive, near midfield, 3rd and 4 we pitch the ball back ~6 yrds to the tailback in the I-formation following his blocker straight ahead and gets tackled for no gain. Drive over. I'm like, are you joking? Funny that everyone griped about the bubble screens the first game but they may have helped lossen up the inside a bit this game. We'll never need to be a gimmick offense but a little creativity would go a long way...

Don't discount the tiredness look. Miles works the hell out of them when things are not going as smoothly as he thinks it should.
Might be leaving the game on the practice field.

I would add "swagger" to that list. I know y'all will roll your eyes when I criticize our defense but there were a lot of plays in the 2nd half with ~3-4 Tigers watching someone else make a tackle 7 yards down the field. Need a little LaRon Landry mean streak and some gang tackling out there. Was hoping the running backs would push each other, take over games and relish the competition like Bowe, Doucet and Davis did a few years back (maybe I'm just imagining they were having fun out there back then...)

I still think our fearless leader lost a lot of his disciples on 1/9/12

..why we haven't found out, but there was and there is still a problem.

the qb publicly outs his receivers and offensive line, while playing poorly and wonder why some on the team don't acknowledge him as a leader. how has mettenberger earned the job, he was given the job and he isn't performing as billed.
