I agree. They didn't reinvent the wheel. I don't think this is any better than a SG1 episode. That isn't an insult. I really like SG1. Same formula. Go from place to place, meet new people. Constantly chased by villains.

I like Firefly but the hyperbole over this show almost borders the same levels of fanaticism as Arrested Development or The Wire.

I did really like Serenity. Another movie would actually be nice.

These two are because they didn't last very long and most people didn't catch it until after it left TV. Kind of like Freaks and Geeks.

You all want a real good TV show to watch that I've never seen mentioned on this board, try Slings and Arrows.

Proving my point. I said nothing bad about the show yet you went bonkers.

The movie was really good too though.

Yup. It kind of reminds me of the Farscape movie. They try and tell everything about the show and get you caught up and have a full movie...all in one.

I just finished the series. It was good, can't say I loved it. The wild west dialogue felt a little forced.

Didn't realize there was a movie, I'll have to check it out this weekend. Hopefully it answers some questions they never got around to answering.

I really thought the movie was lots better than the series. I also felt the dialog felt forced a lot of times and the GIBBERISH words were annoying.

I think I'm the only sci-fi/fantasy guy that thinks Firefly is overrated.

Firefly is heaven for nerds. I'm a functioning nerd. I'd much rather watch BSG.

There was obviously an unexplained back story to why everyone knew Chinese. That was one of the unanswered questions I was referring to. That and Shepherd Book's back story.

Chinese.

The Sino-Anglo alliance combined China and the US and UK into one government.

If you look in the background shots, Chinese characters are the dominant written language.

Really it tied together a plot point.

I always wanted the back story as well.

You mean I never find out? Well that's awesome.

It is kind of annoying that every single planet looks like southern California. I swear it is the exact same location as MASH. You'd think just one or two episodes could be done in Iowa or Kentucky or something.

Oh a whim my wife and I started watching this show for the first time last weekend. Yesterday we finished it. Tonight after the US soccer match we're watching Serenity.

Just to clarify, I'm not at all an 'outer-space' sci-fi type of nerd. More of a comic book type of nerd. But I thought the show was brilliant, and I'm quite disappointed that it is only 1 season in length. Thinking about getting into BSG, which I also have never seen an episode of.

Most all of the planets they visited were terra-formed the same way.

That's how I see it. It takes time for greenery to flourish.
