re: California outlaws so called "gay cure"

quote:

and San Francisco outlawed toys with happy meals

But that was stupid.

quote:

in both cases it is the "State" overriding parents.

I guess you have no problem with child abuse. Because that would be overriding parents.

Overriding of parents is done every day throughout the country because there are a lot of really stupid parents.

quote:

put another way it is elevating the judgement of the collective over the free will of the individual.

Not allowing parents to abuse their children by placing them in these types of therapy is not anything like this. It is simply preventing abuse.

It is not communism any more than taking children away from drug addicts, abusers, etc.

People who lack insight (me being nice) may argue that. Certainly no one with intelligence would argue that.

Was equating the two, to the convention espoused that obesity is genetic and that lifestyle changes will not bring about a skinny person and that the parents want a skinny kid

vs.

sexual lifestyle is genetic and can't be changes by social conditioning because that is what the parents want

these are not the same. You can't equate them.

quote:

obesity is genetic

It is not genetic. It may have a genetic component. However it is not 100% genetic.

quote:

lifestyle changes will not bring about a skinny person

Lifestyle changes and diet changes will bring about a much healthier person.

quote:

sexual lifestyle is genetic

It is uncertain what causes it. There is some suggestion of a genetic component. However, it is not totally genetic.

However, most would say that this is predetermined at birth and can not be changed.

Comparing something that is predetermined at birth versus something that can be changed or modified is comparing apples and oranges.
