i was not thrilled with the hire but that quickly changed with the staff he assembled (kirby in particular...fantastic hire) and the work they put in on the recruiting trail. now they are getting the players they need and that's all you can ask for.

we'll see how they do as far as in game bench coaching, adjusting, game management and what not but more than anything these days you need talent and it's looking like they will have it.

My tune changed quickly with the press conference, and then the way that you could tell Jones was working his arse off to recruit both assistants and players.

Early on, it was like they were announcing something good like every week. That made me think they have an idea of what they're doing and keeping LSU basketball top of mind is really going to help in recruiting. Especially with so many big time in-state guys over the next several years.

It's never too early for those kids to see LSU in a positive light, and I feel like Jones really got off to a good start in doing that.

I agree....I was talking about prior to the press conference...when everyone was speculating who would be the next coach and naming a ton of reasons why CJJ would be a bad hire. But its all good, dont wont to derail the mood. I am happy that he is pulling these type of players into the program and I am excited about LSU bball.

A lot of it had to do with the connection to Dale Brown and the destruction that he caused to LSU basketball. Fairly or not, CJJ was part of the staff that got hammered by the NCAA "gestapo" and he was associated with the violations that occurred.

I was one of those that didn't like the hire for that reason, but I'm going to let him do his work now, support him, and hope he succeeds. They certainly aren't going to go back and unhire him.

Congrats on being a better fan than me, by the way.

I was one of those at one point. I'm on board now.

I was skeptical at first considering the big names brought up on the rant during the search. But after I watched CJJ's presser and seeing the staff he brought in, mainly Robert Kirby, I knew we were headed in the right direction. Recruiting good in basketball is really all it takes.

Hand raised. My take on the hire was it could not be a home run hire. It would either be a total and complete disaster OR a GRAND SLAM!

So far that ball is obviously leaving the park and with each passing day it appear it will not be a foul ball.

My concerns with his hire were his basketball knowledge and ability to coach up players. That I prefaced was due to his arse. coach stint at LSU when I believe every penny he earned was not actually EARNED.

I said he might have learned a lot in the many years he was gone and hoped he had but I wanted a proven X's and O's guy.

I am pumped about the basketball team with JJ at the helm. At the very worst he will be another Dale Brown. Dale Brown could recruit and motivate but X's and O's eluded him.

IF JJ has that part of the equation National Championships are possible... they weren't with Dale Brown.

While Daddy Dale did some great things for LSU Basketball, he wanted basketball to be the only thing LSU was known for and hated the football program.

charlie leonard seems like a decent bench coach that he'll lean on in certain situations.

Just using the full compliment of coaching positions and scholarships available is already an improvement over the previous staff. I never understood that, it seemed like Trent was uncomfortable having to deal with more than like 13 people total.

Does anyone know if we'll have a dedicated S&C guy going forward? I don't think we had one with Trent.

ah, I do remember the guy leaving now that that was mentioned, I guess they replaced with little fanfare, which is understandable.

I'll eat some crow here. Years ago I said Johnny jones should never be allowed to coach at LSU. This guy is doing some serious work

I'm anxious to see how many show on the season opener. Fans in the stands make a huge difference in the recruit's eyes. Going to every game this year

I'm sure all of us season ticket holders show, but I'm talking about the dreaded corners of the upper levels that couldn't even get filled for #1 UK last year

Gotta give it up for Coach Jones. He has infused excitement back into the program.

Good point...but I am going to take a wild guess that CJJ does something big prior to the first game that gets the student base involved...i.e. pep rally or something similar

Open the damn thing up for free for the home and sec opening games. Pack that sumbitch and make people want to pay to come back. I'll be there.
