As a Houston fan, it's got to be 1993-94.

- Rockets went 58-24, winning the Finals over the Knicks in 7 games.

- Oilers went 12-4, winning their last 11 games of the season and the AFC Central to earn a bye, only to choke in the Dome to 37-year-old Joe Montana and the Chiefs in the divisional round. Warren Moon was sacked nine times and had five fumbles. That team should've gone to the Super Bowl, but it would've been slaughtered by the Cowboys.

- Astros went 66-49 in a strike-shorted season and Jeff Bagwell won the MVP. In 114 games, Bagwell hit .368 with 39 HRs and 118 RBIs (.750 SLG and 1.201 OPS). Biggio led the league in doubles and steals. Mitch Williams retired after 25 games.

just being a dick here but you asked for a calendar year and then picked what is obviously not a calendar year.

anyways, ill follow your lead (of not picking a calendar year) and say 2012-2013 for atlanta

Historically:

1972:

The Lakers won 33 in a row - finally winning the NBA title in their eighth finals since moving to L.A.

UCLA Bruins went 30-0 on the way to another NCAA hoops title.

And then there was USC football. The Trojans, one of the greatest teams in college football history (Keith Jackson says the greatest of all time), went 12-0, finishing its season ranked first in the nation (becoming the first team to garner all 1st place votes in both polls.)

I guess 97 with the Wings and UM football winning but I liked 02 the best because the Wings dominated and the Pistons traded for Rip Hamilton

1980-81 was pretty good too

Astros lost in the NLCS in October of 1980. Oilers went 11-5 but lost in the WC round. Rockets went 40-42, went on a run to the NBA Finals and lost to Boston.

No championships obviously makes it worse than 93-94 though

As a Cubs fan, 1908 was badass. Remember it like it was this century.

But they were the Oilers and they were coached by Jack Pardee. I don't know. I was in elementary school at the time, but you'd break down that matchup better than I.
