What has happened to Southern Miss football this season?? I know they lost Larry Fedora to UNC, but my word…they are coming off a 12 win season last year…..did they lose a lot of their players from 2011 as well??

So far this season 0-3

Blowout losses to Nebraska & Western Kentucky with a 10 point loss to ECU

WKU is 1-1 in the SEC right now. Nebraska is flat-out better. Don't know much about ECU.

What's Jeff Bower doing these days?

They're getting what they deserve by firing a coach that was completely loyal to their program and was a lock for 7-10 wins a season to hire a mercenary who dumped their arse first chance he got.

WKU isn't a bad team.

USM is a terrible team this year. They were due a season like this. They have consistently been winners over the past 20+ years.

and that's coming from someone who can't really stand the golden buzzards.

agree and disagree. Bower was steady, but they felt like he had peaked. i think the school felt that they should be competing against boise state for bcs buster status and it was evident that bower was not going to get them there.

nothing against bower, i actually liked him and think he was very underrated, but he wasn't taking them where they wanted/thought they should be.

ran off jeff bower....took time for football gods to catch up with them.

the relationship that JB and his staff had with HS coaches throughout the gulf south was the key.. coaches KNEW he cared about the kids that played for him and when they had a kid that fit for them.. they ended up there....

Can ULM beat them by more than 3 TDs this weekend? That's all I need to know.

They hired Ellis Johnson as their head coach. What's surprising about the results? Firing Jeff Bower was the dumbest thing I've seen any mid-level program do in a long time.

Ellis Johnson, Tommy West, Ricky Bustle.. they made a fricking joke of the hiring process. Should've went with a young up and comer like Fedora was. Through 4 weeks they are still using multiple QBs and running a HS offense.

They also lost a 3 year starter at QB who is now in the NFL, a few OL, and 16 defensive letterman.

Still, people in the Hub City expected more. They are used to winning and are already tired of Johnson and crew.

No, it wasn't. Nobody had a problem with it last year when they were going 12-2. The Bower drama was 5 years ago. It has nothing to do with this season. The problem now is Johnson and his staff. They're awful.
