It would make a lot of sense that shes dead in flash forwards

Either shes dead or thats the worst episode of HIMYM ive ever seen

I think its just him thinking about how lonely he was then. Marshall and Lily are taking care of the baby, Barney and Robin are planning the wedding, and Ted is all alone. I think its more Ted saying he was miserable during those last 45 days than him saying that she is dead later on

It was him telling has kids how the last 45 days before he met the mother sucked, and if he could go back and to that night, he'd go meet his wife 45 days earlier

but we already knew that

Especially since we've never seen her in any flash forwards.

That would make a shite ton of sense and if true Ted Mosby has just about the shittiest life ever.

Yep. And I think there's 6 episodes left so that makes sense

Well that would kinda ruin the point of the whole show about meeting the mother if you had already seen her

Her dying would also be a perfectly reasonable reason for Teds kids to put up with this ridiculously long story from their greiving father

That would also be an extremely morbid ending to show

"So that's how I met your Mother before she died 5 years later"

Obviously. But there still needs to be a plot device to explain it.

That episode was pretty bad. It was just weird and creepy and overall just not very good. I don't think the mother is dead because the kids seem awfully happy in most of the cuts to them and you don't really hear grief in Bob Sagat's voice. I think the 45 days thing is just simply him being a whiney bitch again and they added all the other stuff to the episode to balance it out.

And I thought I read that they signed another season to wrap it up?

I thought it was the best episode of the season.

I finally realized today why I hate him so much. He reminds me of a former roommate of mine. He was pretty whiny himself.

But back to the topic, I would give him so leeway if he is whiny in the future if his wife is dead. But that would have to be the saddest ending every to a sitcom and bays and thomas would be some strange fricks for it.

He meets the mother at the Wedding, which they've said happens in April/May of 2013 on the show. We'll see that in the last episode and meet the mother

The next season will either explain how they begin dating/get married or will be from the mother's point of view telling how she met Ted. Which could be pretty interesting with all the stuff they have mentioned in the show, like Ted dating her roommate, the yellow umbrella, Ted giving the lecture to the wrong class, etc.

No, it wouldn't make sense. I see no way to read this episode as if the mother is now dead. He's just saying that if you love someone, you wish you had as much time with them as possible, even those 45 days. Or 45 seconds.

I can't believe this was such a hard thing to figure out. Additionally, how the hell is this a filler episode? It moved the ball thematically forward. It tethered the audience's relationship to Ted to create his future feelings towards the mother and have them retroactively apply.

It's about love. It stripped away the quirk and got to the core. It's about Ted's love for his wife and his family.

Well thats not the tone of the show to this point, but it would be a bg twist

And theyve obviously been making half this shite up as they go since season 2 anyway
