Just watched it.

They finally did something right. Loved tht ending (although i hate Barney and Robin together, excecution on that was perfect)

Once Robin said "Thats my favorite spot dammit patrice!" Thats when It clicked and i realized that Barney was going to do that but the Playbook thing was a great way to do it and kind of explain a lot of this season.

Up until the twist I was hating the episode. Ted went through yet anoter i love Robin thing. And that scene in the car dragged on for sooooooo fricking long.

I loved it.

Of course Ted was still thinking about. She's a huge love in his life. But he DID let go.

It was a great Ep. I don't care what you cynical fricks say.

It was a great ending, wouldnt call it a great episode, but thats splitting hairs i guess

Couple other things Thinking back after getting over the shock of the ending

1) I hated the Pitt thing, or was atleast lukewarm on it. The end of the first episode was rushed together and a bit cheesy with the pit thing

2) Liked the Seth Green cameo, but im pretty sure Marshall and Lilly have good legal ground to stand on to get some $$ out of him. Marshalls a lawyer, he should know that

3) Lilly boobies. Me like.

4) Barney not being able to speak and then his rant when he could speak was awesome. I thought not having Barney talk would be awful for the show but they pulled it off.

Great, great ending. I really liked how they tied the whole playbook thing in...explained the season and gave some funny looks from different angles, and it's one of the Barney character's biggest plot points so it made perfect sense. I'd rank the proposal up there with my favorites in television

This is my favorite show, so this might be long, but in a way, this episode should have been the series finale. The name and premise of the show ruins it.

The writers succeeded and failed at the same time. The story has been fantastic, outside of their main plot.

Every character on the show has gone through tremendous changes and emotional trauma, except for Ted. Lily's dad was a deadbeat, Marshall's dad died, Barney met his estranged father, and Robin has been built up and thrown down several times.

Ted has cheated on his first main girlfriend of the series, chased after the wrong girl for 7 years, and was left at the altar. Victoria was the only girlfriend in the series that had a shot to be the mother. Stella never was; neither was Zoey.

This show is about Robin and Barney. They are the emotional driving force of the show, and that is over. We just finally get to see the face of this mother.

I feel like most in this thread. I was so pissed off the entire episode because I thought they were going to delve into the whole Robin-Ted thing again and I was pissed. Thought the ending was perfect and it left me very happy.

I really hope this will be the last season, but knowing how tv works these days it probably won't be.

This was definitely the best episode of the season, which is about like saying the solid bowel movement you had was better than diarrhea. With two episodes left in the season they're either gonna have to expedite this whole Barney/Robin wedding storyline so we can meet the mother or get another season, which is unlikely.

The ultimate dump on the fans would be never actually letting us see the mother. Having the final episode be the moment where he meets her and never show her face.

Awesome episode, one of the best in a while. The humor with the jinx stuff was great, then had good plot development and now that Barney and Robin are engaged, I feel like the writers have finally turned the corner and are now in the home stretch to wrap this thing up.

Are you sure about that? Pretty sure this is a normal season so it's going to run the full 24 episodes. The interesting thing about HIMYM right now is they don't know whether or not they'll have a 9th season with the entire premise of the show yet to be unveiled. The question is whether or not we just get to see the face of the mother or we actually get to see the courtship. If they already plan on us just seeing the face then it's simple, you make Ted meeting her the last scene of the series. If you they want us to see the courtship, which IMO is what they want to do, then they can either move the wedding episode up earlier in the season, about episode 18 or so, or they can just cross their fingers and hope for a season 9.

I'm definitely not sure, I'm just consulting wikipedia that says 14 episodes. If that's not accurate, the gives a certain degree of leeway.

I agree with you in that they want us to see the courtship, but I don't see the space for it. With actors being questionable about returning, that makes me wonder. Basically, if it stays at 14 which is what wikipedia currently says (which I totally admit could be wrong), then we get a crap ending. If they get 24 or a ninth season then we get courtship.

Just my opinion.

Wiki doesn't list all future episodes, ran into the same thing a few times about other shows.

It's a full 24 episode season, and is almost certainly the last.

We'll meet the mother after the wedding in the final episode.

Ugh. As someone said, this definitely isn't how I wanted it to end. I've put-up with Ted's bullshite for too long just to see some random chick's face and get some "and that's how I met your mother" end.

I was always hoping we'd see the beginning of them dating and then the ending would be a "and that's how I knew I'd met the one" kind of moment. The problem with that is this show loves surprises so unless he was dating like two chicks there'd be no suspense as any new chick they add right now will be too obvious.

I thought it was pretty awesome. Loved how they basically tied in all the shite people were bitching about and were like "Haha, frick you" and flipped it into Barney's plan the whole time. And I loved that angle because the whole Patrice thing makes no sense on its own...so it was cool that it was all completely set up.

I know I'm in the minority on this, but I really can't stand Lily. She sucks, and I wouldn't miss her if she was off the show tomorrow.

Best part was easily Barney owning everyone in the car with the jinx stuff. That was awesome.

I agree with this. The good news is that after last night, I once again have faith that the writers can come up with something creative to introduce us to the mother. While I'm not happy with the Barney and Robin deal, it was solid execution.

This is why I believe the theory that Barney's sister is the mother. That way it's not just a random person. It has to either be a person like that who is either related to one of the main characters or has some type of connection to a previous story.

I love Robin and Barney together, so screw all of you. That was perfect, funny, and touching. And bringing back their limo driver, one of my favorite recurring characters, just made me smile.

I don't care who the mother is, and never have. It's a McGuffin, and the device allows them to tell more interesting stories about people I like hanging out with. While this is a show concerned with its own mythology, its the relationships between the five that matter, not anyone else.

As a new parent, the Lily-Marshall stuff was cracking us up. Especially when they were shite talking the baby. We totally do that. Though I'm a lawyer married to a teacher and the first of our friends to have a kid, so... well, we identify a lot with Lily and Marshall.

I can see where people wouldn't be happy with the Barney/Patrice episodes at first, but finding out the last few episodes were misdirection rather than over correction should completely change your view of them. This was a well crafted end to single Barney and single Robin.

In my opinion...the show will end with Ted meeting the mother. The show is called "How I MET Your Mother".

I too think it's gonna be Barney's sister. They will show all the flashbacks to prior episodes and how she and Ted just missed each other and explain how she was in all these places, the roommate, the college classroom, the umbrella, all that stuff. The writers are at least pretty good about that.

I think the writers and producers figure another season pickup is a long shot.
IF the show is picked up for a 9th season, I think then you might see a courtship and dating hijinks and stuff.
