Does anyone here have a Viking gas range? Do you like it? How long have you had it? Any issues? Thanks!

I'm not sure I follow this? You move your kitchen range from house to house?

I have a six burner with a griddle in the middle and two large gas ovens. It's eleven years old and the only problems I've had we're the convection fan and the broiler both quit but it was still under warranty. I like the griddle best but it's kind of a pain to clean.

Next one I'll just get the cooktop and go back to big wall mount electric convection ovens.

All of the pro style range brands are nice. DCS for wok rings, Wolf if you're matching a SubZero fridge, Viking if you want a color (which you should, frick stainless)...We have a 36" JennAir and it's aight, 'bout like a Decor...copycats, although high quality

Simmer burners make the range. Dual fuel is the way to go. I'd love one higher power burner for a wok...

The Wolf double oven dual fuel ranges are sick, the Viking 36" color ranges are as well...

Go to a restaurant supply store and tell them you want a shitrock for your griddle. They will know what it is by the name alone, the smell of using one(it will clean you griddle very good) is something unimaginable.

the only issue they ever have is with the automatic re-ignition. Sometimes they will just randomly start clicking.

Other than that the stove is basically 1960's tech (a good thing) and it is bullet proof. Worth every penny.

They last and hold up well, and parts are inexpensive and service isn't too bad.

I just got a package in with eight Viking rheostats (what the knob turns) it was $60 for eight.

Parts are cheap, and quality is top notch.

(re-ignition module is $200 though)

Dacor control boards are going to fail as will Jenn-Airs. They need to use better relays, and allow swapping of relays.

Jenn-Air to Dacor is apples to Oranges.

Jenn-Air is the king of the dual fuel, Dacor is the king of in wall ovens.

My Jenn-Air is a gas oven and not even self cleaning. We bought a real nice toaster oven thing and use that for most baking.

I've spent a good bit of time in the Decor factory, the ovens are nice. Saw countless batches of sugar cookies come out of them and some dude with a sensor measuring the 'brownness' of them.

The reason I said copycats is that I don't see any stand out products from either. My folks replaced the control board in their Decor ovens (I almost killed myself in a Decor test cell shorting a transformer on top a double oven setup), but their 48" drop in gas cooktop was bomber.

My Jenn-Air went under in Katrina, but I took it all apart and changed out everything I could. I want to replace it, but I can spend $5000 in a better way than a new range.

ETA: I worked for UL in that Standard group. Decor is the only pro style I got to test, everything else was either commercial or a bit less quality like GE. Did some Samsung ovens over in South Korea, but really just an audit on their testing labs. Fridges, blenders...Wolf was a 'better' trip, so I never got that one. Decor is outside of LA, City of Industry, and damn that little airport out there. "Can't fly into San Francisco since it's foggy." WTF, it's always foggy, don't you have electronics?

damn, finding a UL tech is like finding a Gideon. I know you exist as I see your mark on everything. Just never seen one in real life.

Nope, first engineering job out of college. Friend of a friend got me a job out there and I moved from Baton Rouge to the Santa Clara region to work there. I'd studied microchip manufacturing in grad school, so I was hoping to quit for a device engineer position. That industry went to shite right when I moved out there (10/2000) so I just worked at UL for a couple of years and moved to New Orleans.

I was in Japan doing a sushi robot safety evaluation over 9/11 and in general got to travel a bunch over that time though, loved the Bay area.

Funny that my career started with safety standards and it never strayed very far. frick.
